North Gaia will be very profitable for the company but seems like I'm not welcomed to share positive comments, only can say how the company doesn't unlock value so I shall not comment further on this article.

Dear bargainhunter,
All comments are welcomed regardless of their sentiment (positive or negative) as long as they are robust and based on facts.
IMHO, it would be good if we can all learn to temperamentally deal better with disagreeing comments, isn't it?

Despite a good set of earnings, dividends given to minority has been very little as compared to earnings
I would go for other property companies such as KSH whose mgmt are more generous in sharing dividends with minority shareholders. How mgmt declare dividends in tandem with earnings is an important indicator of actions to show its a worthwhile investment. Singholdings fail in this act.
since your fellow moderator, weijian, has been encouraging me:
"How mgmt declare dividends in tandem with earnings is an important indicator of actions to show its a worthwhile investment. Singholdings fail in this act."
Are you saying that Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway also fail in this act because they have never declared any dividends before?

Hmm yea, i might have forgotten about share buybacks as another sign of good corporate governance.
Berkshire does that, but if you look at Singholdings they do not do that at all. So its little dividends little to no share buyback.

I don't think there is a failure among the many residential projects Sing Holdings has engaged in.

Berkshire outlined its first official buyback policy in 2011. Does that mean that for the 40 years before that, not declaring dividends in tandem with earnings nor doing share buyback means Berkshire was not a worthwhile investment?

In terms of hindsight, yes. With berkshire starting to do more and more share buyback did its share prices appreciate at a faster rate than the decade prior.
The action of the management played a large effect on the company (other than the wonders of QE which lifted all share prices)

One difference between Warren Buffet and ordinary investors is that he normally take significant stake in the company he invests or effectively controls the company.
In Sing holdings case, the share price has been languishing around 40 cents for the most part of the last 10 years. If you are able to control the company as like Warren Buffet, you will see the company's fundamentals improving and assets rising. But on the other hand, if you are just a normal investor, the share price has not budge for the last 10 years and the only consolation is the dividend.
So if one wants to invest like Warren Buffet, ask if you could take the company whole else it might be a simply waste of time for you are waiting for the management to do you a favour.
Take opportunity when this North Gaia is launched....a new set of Warren Buffet wannabes will be suck in and take opportunity of the rising price to.........

@bargainhunter, WB and BH are outliers. They are useful as inspiration and goals in life. But if we use them as justification, we have to make sure the context is right, ie. SingHoldings is an outlier and so using BH is an appropriate context.
I do not know much about SingHoldings and so wouldn't make a conclusion about whether it is appropriate. But from base rates, there isn't a lot of outliers on SGX (not saying that they isn't any).
@BeHappyAlways, your "warren buffett wannabe" says it all!
As the saying goes, the young man knows all the rules but the wise man knows the exceptions.
