I'm still a very young investor and by gaining more knowledge i'll be able to unearth more things and learn more about investing.
Thanks everyone for teaching.
Currently, i think the best way is to build my nest egg and load on lots of valuable knowledge about investing before i start 'firing'.

Wish you all the best.

Few notes from me.
- Learning via hands-on is always more efficient and effective than learning via reading. Just start small, and experience it along the way seems a good approach, at least for me.
- Never take valuation as a science, with accuracy up to last decimal point. Accuracy within a range is already good enough for wealth accumulation, IMO

Enjoy the experience with VB. One of the informal "mission" of VB is to enhance financial literacy among investor community.

Good luck for your investing journey. All the best, you will learn much as time is on your side if you start young.

As a fellow young investor, advices I can give are 1) invest with money you are willing to lose and 2)use Stan Chart brokerage as they do not have min commission which is good for investors with a small capital base.

Hey guys out there, i've a qn. I usually find in annual reports that the actual hard cash that is comimg into the company as profits are usually lesser than the reported earnings. What is the reason behind it? And is it possible that the hard cash coming in is larger than the reported earnings?

reported earnings are accounting profits and can vary a lot with the CF. if the co has a huge revaluation of its assets( eg ala biological assets) then accounting profits will be very high but there is no cash coming in. Conversely if there is a huge write down in assets or a change in depreciation amounting to much increase, then accounting profits will be hit but cash will remain the same and hence higher than profits. I have sited some examples but there are other differences. If in doubt always base on CF, less possibility of manipulation but still possible.

Thanks jacmar. I've actually been reading about ways to evaluate a business via cash flow. I just want to add valuing a company by cash flow as one of my many methods to evaluate to get a better picture of the company's financials and future prospects. Do people usually value via free cash flow or the operating cash flow?

I read about warren buffett saying that the intrinsic value is the amount of cashflow you can get out of the company. Is that anyone out there to enlighten me what is the price one should pay to the cash flow and how a margin of safety is added on that.

I've actually been reading many books but just dont get how things are actually link back to the stock price?

Thanks all out there and God bless you Smile

Hi Buddies,

NOt sure if someone have already asked this question.

If I want annual reports of companies longer than 5 years, I understand that I can get it from the library.

I went to NLB catalogue, seem like the onlu library that have such records is the main library at victoria street, and they are for reference only.

Are they other sources?

I know shareinvestor have longer records of AR, but I do not really want to pay...

CHeapo i know... If any buddies know of anyway, please let me know
