I have just completed my 2 weeks vacation in USA with my gf along the west coast and approximately spent SGD6k entire trip per person.. all on self travel.. I wonder is it too extravagant?

I probably could have saved SGD500 if I had 2 more travellers (saving on car rental, petrol and some accomodation cost).

I wonder how much does a typical honeymoon costs?

I think this is a very personal question to begin with.

If you already budgeted for it, and you can afford it (i.e. you don't lose sleep over spending $6K and then thinking how you're going to get through the next month after you get back from it) then why should you have regrets? After all, you're only X yrs once in your life. So don't fret the small stuff.

Imagine you keep worrying about whether you could have saved a hundred here or a hundred there and all that eventually makes the difference and you attain a level of financial comfort you desire, would you want to trade the mental stress you inflicted on yourself just for that? Then there's also the impact on the people around us when we worry. Worrying affects our mood and our interactions with others.

So in sum, if you spending $X inflicts permanent impairment of your plan of attaining financial comfort, don't do it. Otherwise, if you get to a million bucks, what's the difference between that and a million and six thousand?

Haha. The problem was I budgeted for between 4-5k but arrived at 6k figure... so was kinda shell-shocked still.

Also, I kinda want to find out how much a typical honeymoon cost on average standards as I will have to plan it in a few years time..

It's also about the experience, the quality aspect of the holiday.
If both truly enjoyed it, what's a few K? We all have limited years on this planet.

mrengineer: its also depends on how freq and how extravagant your other trips were?

For me, I had a pact with my wife that we travel once 2-3 years so we are are to budget more for that trip. So it all depends Smile

time well spent with wife is priceless... don't save on that!! :O
1) Try NOT to LOSE money!
2) Do NOT SELL in BEAR, BUY-BUY-BUY! invest in managements/companies that does the same!
3) CASH in hand is KING in BEAR!
4) In BULL, SELL-SELL-SELL!
