Creative Technology ($3.45) - Recently Creative Tech makes the following announcements. Seems exciting time for this sleepy company for the near future. Shall see how the products preview turn out to be at CES 2020 this week. Perhaps time to re-rate this stock?

Almost 2 years after the first launch, the Super X-Fi Amp has yet to deliver the kind of sales and profits which shareholders are expecting.

I'm not an audiophile and I don't use such products. But the slow demand from the mass-market suggests that there may be more hype than quality in the product. If it is so awesome, why aren't more people buying? Perhaps it is far too pricey.

Earlier there was mention that they intend to license the technology to headphone manufacturers. But that doesn't seem to be happening and Creative went ahead to build its own X-Fi headphones. Creative needs to build a large market for its product, to gain leverage in licensing negotiations. But its own X-Fi headphones (and Amp dongle) does not seem to be selling.

Will Sim cut the price of the Amp?

Bingo, it's not about the technology, it's never about the technology; it's about product market fit, it's about marketing, it's about salesmanship. Creative doesn't have a good track record for those things.

Edit: Techies/Audiophiles/Geeks enthusiasm over something new and shiny; rarely directly translate over to wider market success, unfortunately.

Bingo, it's not about the technology, it's never about the technology; it's about product market fit, it's about marketing, it's about salesmanship. Creative doesn't have a good track record for those things.

Case in point: Beats by Dr Dre. You hardly hear them hammering on about how great their technology is as a selling point.
You can count on the greed of man for the next recession to happen.

Certainly a product will sell better if it is marketed well. But my belief is that a superior technology/product/service will eventually gain acceptance in the market -- even if it isn't well-marketed -- if it is able to gain wide exposure to the market, and is reasonably priced.

So if Creative cannot build a market for X-Fi, to me it means that it is either lousy, too expensive, or too few people have tried it.

The initial hype surrounding the product seems to suggest that the 'holography' technology is quite revolutionary. None of the other audio companies seem to have it, and in fact, most of them -- like Beats, Bose, and Sony -- were working on noise cancelling technology. So maybe 'holography' is indeed new, but just doesn't sound better than noise cancelling headphones.

The X-Fi technology is great so does all the digital technology of all the high tech firms invented. However, the limiting factor is our ear, just a stereo analog with three tiny bones. Can't do much about it!

there is another field of interests of combining our 5 senses to achieve the ultimate digital experiences.... that would be the way to go sir... Smile
1) Try NOT to LOSE money!
2) Do NOT SELL in BEAR, BUY-BUY-BUY! invest in managements/companies that does the same!
3) CASH in hand is KING in BEAR! 
4) In BULL, SELL-SELL-SELL!

Spatial Audio announced on AirPods Pro on WWDC:



Similar to Creative Super X-Fi, this creates a pseudo surround sound effect using software algorithm; in addition, this also use the gyroscope in the Airpods Pro to track head movement, remapping sound-field to stay stationary, relative the listener, even as the head moves. This is probably to lay the ground work for future AR/VR applications.

Apple might make this a standard feature moving forward on other devices (standard AirPods, Beats etc.) as well.
