Hard to say so we have to watch his Action AND Result to decide. I will not be surprise those property lobbyists will go via other Ministers to pressure Khaw. There are more than one "MBT" last time that are still around.

Khaw is the 'cho kang' type that delivered results. Like when he was Minister of Health. Made the hospitals reveal their charges. I think it has an effect on damping health costs.

Khaw did quite OK in reining the expectations for public housing via BTO.
Stall demand while bringing more BTO supply online.

Better than MBT. MBT slow to react in policy response. Until lose job. Like the bunch of ex-Ministers. (although may be a half-purge)

I think the nex thing developers ask for is reduce devep tax, increase foreign labour quota etc.. If the developers have blindly bid high prices for land, they shld bear the consequences and not ask for gov to bail them out. Let's see how Khaw react to the pressure.

just curious...if the developers bid low prices for govt land...will ura & hdb sell?

indeed - i think Khaw deserves much more applause for what he did (and is doing) - quite annoying when i see him being satirised online.

Too bad he is not that young - i will love for him to be the PM/DPM.

If the price of the winning bid is too low, the land may not be sold to the winning bidder

I share your view. I saw the quality of a scholar within a politician. A rare quality of a true "智者“, who has the ability to "治国平天下“, yet remains humble and willing to serve.

**** I think Leng Beng interpreted that Khaw wanted a steady property price instead of declining price.
**** As most Singapore 'own' either a HDB or condo, I think Leng Beng interpretation would make more sense.

1. Who invited the developers to bid for the land? Ho Bee CEO did not bid for any land. Wing Tai boss was selling off previous land.

2. Some developer CEO once said SIngapore property prices are reasonable. If that is really the case, he can buy up the whole project because it is a good deal.

3. No sales? Flora drive condo sold like hot cakes.

4. Waive ABSD? If Singaporeans paid for them, why do the foreigners deserve special VIP treatment? What is this signalling?

Instead of relax rules, the developers should relax their prices.

SINGAPORE — It is time for the Government to consider tweaking the property curbs in light of global economic concerns, Executive Chairman of developer City Developments Ltd Kwek Leng Beng said today (Feb 7).

Mr Kwek commended the Government’s effort in stabilising the property market since the Lehman-led crisis in 2009, but it is now time to tweak some measures as the market started to cool.
