One possible but remote clue about whether or not we get an light aircraft carrier or even 2 consider the following.
Participant of the F-35 joint strike fighter program or plans in place to purchase
Japan - License to build F-35, currently operates Hyuga Destroyer (Helicopter carrier)
Australia - Plans to purchase F-35. Recently took delivery of 2 vessels of Juan Carlos I Light Helicopter Carrier with ski-jump
South Korea - Plans to purchase F-35, operates Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship 1 built 1 more planned
Turkey - Plans to purchase F-35, plans to purchase Juan Carlos I Light Helicopter Carrier with ski-jump from Spain.
Singapore - Interested in F-35b as a security cooperative participant but no official comment and no plans for jmms
-- Non F-35 participants
Thailand - Operates Light aircraft carrier Chakri Narubet
Malaysia - To buy 2 mistral Light Helicopter carrier originally built for Russia.
Indonesia - No official plans but there is a PT Palindo marine display for a helicopter carrier and indonesia have so many thousands of islands. is not matter of if but when with neighbors all around getting assault ships and I read in the indian ocean they have to contend with India Navy intrusion and india have 2 real carrier battle groups.
update 25/4/2016 : Indonesia announced navy modernization plans recently "Minimum Essential force" by 2024 consists of additional 247 surface vessels and 12 submarines
China - already have 1 carrier and rumor of plans for up to 3 more in the coming years.
Seems like almost everybody have or already building or future plans for some kind of Light Helicopter carrier / Big Assault ship.
For Singapore.
Of course we are getting it lah no question. the clue will be in the future Singapore defence budget which I already monitoring closely
My guess 1 possibility we could follow Turkey and Australia with the Juan Carlos why? Becos the F-35 allows to share data on situation awareness between allies so having similar platform allows better interoperability between allies is a good idea, another reason is sharing of cost and logistics. We could have 1 built in Singapore with tech transfers then a few years later we will have a second ship built entirely on our own or under license.
The second more remote possibility is italian light carrier cavour that is also F-35 capable built by Fincantieri reason being a lot of the weapon systems built into the cavour are already used by singapore navy like otomelara 76 gun, mbda aster missiles
