it will be difficult to expand. not many places will see them enjoy the kind of gadget culture and willing to pay normal dollars for it.

i also seea coming wave of online newegg based that will cater to more assesories based products, so basically you are buying for their ability to move laptops, routers, tablets and desktops

Base on purely "walk-around" observation, Courts Asia outlet PC display area is much more than accessory display, probably 3:1 is my guess.

Challenger Tech's outlet, PC display vs accessory display area ratio is 1:2 base on my guesstimate.

In short, accessory sale seems the focus for Challenger Tech outlet. Tongue

I believe that in the SG and Msia context there is still plenty of room for growth.

I notice the old are picking up on using technology, nowadays I take bus or mrt I see uncles and aunties using their iphones or tablets to watch drama or play games too.

Also the new generations are starting to use technology at a very young age, even primary school kids use computer to do homework etc.

I believe the demand for IT products will still be strong, especially tablets and laptops.

Attached is 2 tables from Courts Asia IPO prospectus, the average growth for the industry over the last 3 years was about 5.5%
Challenger did a good job and managed to grow by over 4 times the average, a solid 25%!

I will be happy if they continue to open like 2-3 stores per year, maybe 1 in Msia and 2 in Sg per year will be great, until they reach about 50 stores

I believe in 10 to 20 years time only the top 3 IT retailers will survive, maybe Challenger, CourtsAsia and Pertama
The smaller retailers will have a big disadvantage as they lack economies of scale.

The IT retailer scene will look more like our supermarket scene, with the big 3 NTUC, Diary Farm & Sheng Shiong dominating the market
in such oligopoly, shareholders are usually very well rewarded, cheers ^^

As East Point Mall will be closed for 1 year to under go renovation, Challenger will be having a member's clearance sale!

The management is reviewing the outlets regularly. This is not the 1st time it closed outlet and relocated it elsewhere.

Closing unprofitable outlets is a good thing. All things being equal, it should raise Challenger's overall PBT and operating margins going forward. It also shows that Challenger's senior management has a certain way to measure/monitor individual outlets' profitability and contribution to the group, and has the courage to act on those outlets which have proven not meeting the mark.

Moving out of IMM and going into JEM should be a good move
They also have a challenger store at Jcube, so this should improve their coverage in the jurong area

Eastpoint Mall they were forced to close as that area will be down for 1 year to under go renovation

United Square.. this one I really dunno why they close it, will have to try to find out more hehe

Sorry the IMM one is just closing the mini store, the main store in IMM will still be there
