Whether they purposesly or not, there is rule of law here. Let'sthe judge, lawyer and police debate over it. The message is corporate and CEO has key responsibilities to public safety especially so when there are so many incidents already. and if found negligence i hope to see punitive damages.

I'm quite surprised that SMRT only install the gates recently. In the past, there have been calls by public to shield up the tracks. SMRT's response was, that will increase the cost. But the installation cost will be paid by LTA and SMRT should be able afford that little bit increase in maintenance cost?

it is not their responsible to install gates.... so the blame cannot be on smrt. look at overseas countries, there are open track too..

agreed. European railways are open-concept, open track too.

Don't think SMRT should be penalised for it. Dodgy
1) Try NOT to LOSE money!
2) Do NOT SELL in BEAR, BUY-BUY-BUY! invest in managements/companies that does the same!
3) CASH in hand is KING in BEAR!
4) In BULL, SELL-SELL-SELL!

Hey guys, thanks for your reply! I do agree that SMRT shouldn't be liable for the accident. But I think it would be good if they could do it to reduce accidents, which could cause delay and inconvenience to the public. Parents have to be extra careful too when standing near the platform, for the fear that their kid may play and fall into the tracks.

Every country has different conditions. Imagine you are in an overcrowed platform, incidentally you are in the front queue inline and you got pushed down. Touchwood you met similar fate as her. Is that a fiction ? If it can happens, it will. Just likely not you but somebody else.

Life is ruined. Lost career, car, money, girlfriend, legs, social life, friends, holidays. A simple installation easily avoid that and everyone knows it. Opinion maybe vastly different if she is related to you.

When mustafa shopping center overcrowding it was in the news that the authorities penalized mustafah shopping center saying it is a fire hazard, but when overcrowding in smrt resulting in mishap why nobody want to say anything?

First class AGM, first class hotel, but third class investor behaviour

AS AN SMRT investor, I attended its 12th annual general meeting (AGM) at the Marina Mandarin last Friday.

The AGM was well-chaired and professionally conducted but the conduct of some investors was appalling.

Well before the end of the meeting, some investors seated at the back and some who were outside the meeting room started helping themselves to the food and refreshments without any regard for those interested in what was happening at the meeting.

When the AGM ended, there was a mad scramble for the food, of which very little was left soon. Even though the hotel staff tried their best to replenish the items, they vanished immediately as many hurriedly heaped their plates.

Some did not even eat but were busy packing the food in plastic bags, styrofoam boxes and containers that they had brought along. I saw a few women picking up food left untouched on the plates of others. There was also a lot of wastage.

I suggest more proper crowd control and for food to be served only after the AGM is over. That way, it will be available to all participants.

Alternatively, each investor could be provided with a pre-packed lunch box in a bag. Shareholders will then have a choice of consuming the food there or taking it back. This may contribute to better order and genuine AGM participants may have a better time.
