I think much of the west opposes building a kra canal or change of current status. This maritime trade route actually goes back to british colonial times and we know from this was source of their great wealth and maritime power. Though empire today no longer around I believe their financial interest still remains also been adapted by the west and today in place of spices is oil trading and shipping of it moves from point to point fees extracted along the way.
