An online education provider start-up, worth US$1 billion? The global education market is estimated as US$2.2 trillion (see link below). I reckon, the start-up has a small fraction of the market share, with only English courses, for Chinese students.

TutorGroup raises $200 mil in Series C funding

(Nov 19): Online education provider TutorGroup said it raised about US$200 million ($284 million) in Series C equity funding, valuing the privately owned company at over US$1 billion.

Singapore’s sovereign fund GIC, the Russia-China Investment Fund, Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Silverlink Capital LP participated in the funding round.

TutorGroup, which offers online courses on English in the greater China region and for Chinese students abroad, has already attracted investments from Alibaba Group Holding and Temasek.
