SINGAPORE - Executive condo ( HDB EC) residents such as those from The Terrace EC and Waterwoods EC in Punggol can look forward to a one-stop amenity centre in the future, as the foundations for a next-generation neighbourhood centre were laid on Saturday morning.

Named Oasis Terraces, the centre was designed with residents' feedback in mind after the Housing and Development Board (HDB) held focus group discussions with them. It is the first of four HDB new generation neighbourhood centres which will be built over the next three years, with other centres in Sembawang, Hougang and another in Punggol.

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan, who officiated the foundation-laying ceremony, said Punggol residents had expressed wishes for more family-oriented facilities and dining options in the vicinity.

The centre, located next to the Oasis LRT station at Punggol Waterway, will contain 18,000 sqm of retail space for shopping, dinner, educational and enrichment centres. It will also house the Punggol Polyclinic operated by SingHealth Polyclinics.

It is scheduled to be completed in 2018.

"I am confident, that when completed, Oasis Terraces will be very popular with the residents. It will be a watering hole for the residents, right along the Punggol Waterway. Our vision of waterfront living in Punggol is taking shape," said Mr Khaw.

The heart of the development will be a sheltered community plaza, for community gatherings and bonding bonding amongst residents. An area on the roof of the development will also be set aside for a community garden.

Fronting the Punggol Waterway, residents will be able to use the facility to hold community events, or for walks through the lush green terraces. A dedicated pedestrian thoroughfare will also give residents direct access to Punggol Waterway, while covered walkways will connect the development to the Oasis LRT station and neighbouring blocks.

In line with Punggol's goal of being an eco-friendly town, the centre will contain green initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, sensor-activated fans and solar-ready roofs.
