2. Both were local companies built up from scratch locally and extends their presence globally including to far-flung places like Africa or Latin America.
3. Both founders were born in Malaysia.
4. Both were Mechanical Engineers.
5. Both founded their companies at the age of 36.
6. Both founders passed away at the age of 60+ after selling away their stake in the company.
Larry Lam, founder of Portek, passed away 2 years after selling his stake in Portek, at the age of 62.
Yap Lem, founder of Inter-Roller, passed away soon after selling all his stake in the company. He was 64 then.
7. Both were known to be strong leaders who treated their staff well and have helped to build the wealth of their staff.
