Stop judging people by how much they earn

Hah, quite a few cynical people here heh. I dun really care how LWL got her position, only that she is competent and dedicated to her work, which I hope she is. I quite like her articles, tho not those about her family.

Imo, our government is not perfect but good enough. Tho I still bitch about it haha.

Thing is, are these ministers able to command the same level of salary in the private or public(but not ministerial) sector? If the diff is not wide, I cannot fathom why these people would want a thankless job which can potentially(or inevitably hehe) incur the wrath and curses of the nation

Some people actually work to want to be politician. There are many motivating factors from prestige, recognition, power , service etc....

Money is not the only motivating factor for someone who has climbed the economic ladder.

For some, it is the stable economic calendar.

Agree. Some politicians could work for other intrinsic objectives. I opine that the challenge in public service is different from that at a commercial company. A person can be good at one but not the other.

Unfortunately equating this (as similar) is sometimes the challenge at Singapore Inc. When the top enunciates that ministers and top civil servants (and corresponding next levels) need to be paid top dollar, it’s easy to associate high earnings as a good yardstick of a person’s worth. This permeates through the hierarchy. The “public” service message thus gets mixed up with the service for money message, esp where monetary goals are a common denominator. Monkey see, monkey do.

I like to use SMRT as a related example. To me, it is first a commercial entity tasked to earn money for shareholders, less a public transportation service. If the CEO does not earn good money for the company, she will be judged a poor CEO no matter how good the train service is. Her earnings and bonuses will go down.

How can we not judge a person based on how much he earns if we keep seeing examples otherwise?
