Wan Kau,

IMHO, I think counter party risk is applicable to all (incl SGX CDP).
Is just whether which counter party risk is higher.

I had taken a look at their terms and conditions, it had stated that a person would need to be 21 in order to open an account. As I am still under 21, I has discarded my idea of opening standard chartered brokerage account and stick the usual one instead.

As always, thanks for your help buddies. Sorry to took up all of your precious times to reply to this dummy question by me.[/font]

Hi CY,
If one day, vb.com is crowded with teenagers, don't be surprise.

This is a hip/happening place.
And, vb.com attracted a lot of free advertisements too!

One purpose of VB is to promote value investing among investors either young or old, newbie or "old hand".

I agree with CY09, we do glad youths are interested in value investing, which seems boring and tedious.

Wish you all the best in the value investing venture

If SCB can offer low trading rates, imagine how much margin the other brokers like Philips, LimTan etc are making. Hope the other brokers lower their cost especially on internet trading. One reason for the low liquidity in sgx is the trading cost is still quite high.

SCB charges lower trading rate, but compensated by others means. It is the total package counts.

I doubt there are "high margin" on internet tradings nowaday...

Anyone has any idea how standchart trading account deals with their numbers? Yesterday (Sunday) I looked at my the amount at securities trading account its one number and today (Monday) I looked at it in the morning and its another number (I estimate to be $500-$1000 difference). I called the bank and asked how they handle these and the operator doesn't seem to have a clear idea as well. My friend using this has the same problem of understanding how it works.

Can someone enlighten me?

Valuation are done once a day, so unlikely a change in valuation on Monday morning versus figures on Sunday. It could be new IPO, rights allotted, bonus shares etc etc. Could you not just to check your portfolio statement and see you can spot any increase/decrease for each and every counters?
