I think Singapore has to be neutral, not taking any sides for political insurance.
Backup plan is for family, I only think a lot about it once I had a kid, buying a property at perceived safe heaven country may give me a shelter should thing turns out bad.

(you know, the whole bunker thing, an assault rifle, plenty of ammunition, livestock and dry provisions.) Given the nature of our country, safely almost automatically means fleeing the country in one form or the other.

like what we see on tv doomsday preppers build a bunker 6 foot under is a really bad idea.

1) you are a stationary target, humans produce waste and you need to take out that waste, somebody is going to find that waste and trace it back to you.
2) since all your resources are in a single location if you are under siege you need to escape to safety you need to abandon "everything".
3) eventually all kinds of prepping will run out of resources.

The best way to prep for disaster or if you need to flee from the hordes looters or zombies is to go to sea, get into a sailboat and just go.

If you have million dollar budget a modern cruising sailboat these days could be equipped with everything you need to live a life off grid for several years and people have done that youtube has lots of homevideos of people who do that, sail using wind power takes you from place to place, solar panels and wind turbines for electricity, desalinator systems for water, you can even install gps or small radar with up to 80km range and if you need food there's lots of fish in the sea just have to catch it, they even have propeller motors today that don't need diesel fuel just run off from a car battery and recharge with electricity from solar or wind. if one place becomes hostile just sail to another, there are places, islands in the world that planes just cannot reach to due to long distances.

Of course even this has it's downsides is not 100% fail safe. All that moisture eventually gets into the equipment and things break down (it pays if you are a handy man), good luck if you need a dentist or a doctor there are storms gales tsunami at sea and pirates.

And if the chaos and madness never materializes hey you and your family could still go holiday on it. Tongue

A good movie to rent to get some idea "All is lost" - starring robert redford Big Grin
