On a serious note, kudos for the job well-done, CityFarmer. Smile

Anyway, this should remind us to think through everything that has been discussed. As much as I like this forum that is based on trust, not all opinions are unbiased.

How do we even know if one is truly vested in the stock? A mere "(vested)" can't validate 100%.

For every advice or opinion, we should always do our own homework unless you really know the person's character.

You might not aware, there are more users be banned in the background by cyclone, but those are obvious cases e.g. spam Big Grin

Thanks. One of the reasons to allow david to present his side of story, is not due to leniency. It is a way to close the case properly, both for the benefits of VB buddies, as well as to david. VB buddies here knew the truth (hopefully) and david to repent. Then all of us just move-on.

Thanks again.

To add on :
Do not buy or sell based on hearsay, trust, or what other forummers said. I'd like to quote Benjamin Graham : An investment operation is one which, upon thorough analysis, promises safety of principal and a satisfatory return. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative.

Sometimes I think it's not easy to teach "money sense" to someone who have a different temperament, perspective or outlook of life. Woe to those who take advantage of this group of people.
These kind guiless souls will believe any sale personal on the street.
WB:-

1) Rule # 1, do not lose money.
2) Rule # 2, refer to # 1.
3) Not until you can manage your emotions, you can manage your money.

Truism of Investments.
A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.

NB:-
My signature is meant for psychoing myself. No offence to anyone. i am trying not to lose money unnecessary anymore.

bit of a pity that this happened.

I hope this does not put off forumers from helping if someone else with a genuine situation seeks advise in the future.

I personally found the thread on insurance invaluable - it is probably one of the few sources of unbiased, non-profit driven advises.

A forum is only as good as the participating members so i support the ban on unwelcomed members as well.

Sorry for posting untrue stories to elicit useful advice.

I have benefited much from your sharing and ideas and would like to thank you all for that.

Some people may feel I don't give back but I hope everyone can remember that no advice is better than bad advice and I would rather not comment if I am not a subject matter expert.

Thanks!

david

I thought he showed sincerity and maturity in the apology. Not an easy job being a moderator.

Hi AlphaQuant,

I agree with the sentiments. However, i think internet forums might not be a good place in general for individual specific financial advice. For example, I was uncomfortable with further participation in this thread as i had my suspicions that he was a financial advisor and offering client scenarios for our advice.

I wonder how would fellow members feel about offering free, individually tailored advise to a financial planner who then passes it on to his clients and charges for it.

hmm, I hadn't considered the possibility of the bloke being a financial advisor seeking free help - now that u raised it, it does seem possible!

nonetheless, I think it will be very sad if the spirit of sharing is lost due to black sheeps...

The individual can be financial advisor seeking advice for his client, but the responsibility and accountability to the client is that person's alone.

Just because someone does something wrong should not impact others who are really seeking for an alternative opinion other that their own.

The advice is free without any accountability. The final decision and the outcome is advice seekers alone.

I think we should help anyone who is asking for an opinion provided we have an opinion.

The spirit of a forum is lost when no one shares honest practical advice.

The sharing and caring is what make Value buddies is the best forum out there.

It would be a shame to lose that.
