Good morning valuebuddies.
Hope that everyone had a good night sleep and woken by the exciting feeling wanting to do something.

Today, there are 2 news on property portals
1. PropertyGuru.com raised $300m funding (link)
2. 99.com to hire 100 tech position (link)

What is happening to SRX.com?

It also reminded me of our darling shareinvestor.com too.

What is happening and how could it happen?

I'm glad that valuebuddies.com is still here and I'm very thankful to everyone.

Stay safe and stay healthy, everyone.

Good morning valuebuddies.
Hope all have a good night sleep and looking forward to another brand new day.

I had just flip back to read a old AR of MM.
Nothing seems to change much.

MM is build to last and hope all can get a copy of its AR every year.

Despite the improved performance in FY2002, the Group continues to operate in an uncertain market environment. With end-demand likely to remain affected by price pressure, we expect to see further cost and competitive pressures over the next 12 months. Nevertheless, the directors are cautiously optimistic about the long-term prospects of the semiconductor industry. The Group is working to prepare for a recovery in the market and to capitalize on opportunities as they arise. To take advantage of the rapid development of China’s semiconductor industry, the Group intends to establish a manufacturing facility in China by end of 2004.

Fast forward to today.
With the USA revenue growing strongly due to Trump's "American First" policy, it's no brainer to see that China revenue will shrink accordingly.  As more and more semi-con factories is setting up in USA, the demand for MM parts will naturally increase in USA and of course this will means that correspondingly the demand in MM parts in China will drop.

However, I thought the China will not sit still.  China (Gov) will likely push for more initiatives to develop its "domestic" semi-con industry.  This would likely create more opportunities for MM too.

So, USA factory ramp up will increase MM's revenue, China domestic policy will also increase potential revenue too.

Lets see.

Stay home and stay safe, everyone.

3 stocks I will buy now with $10,000

Yesterday, Royston@theSmartInvestor recommended 3 stocks:
1. SGX
2. MM
3. Keppel DC Reit

His thinking process of selecting these 3 stocks is excellent.
extracted:
As we get used to living with changed habits amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s also time to think of what lies ahead.
  • What will life be like after factoring in changes to lifestyles and routines?
  • Which industries and sectors will remain unscathed, or emerge stronger?
  • And most importantly, which companies will continue to sail on through the storm and grow stronger?
Businesses providing essential services and located in the right sector can thrive despite the gloom.

Maid acquitted of stealing from CAG chairman Liew Mun Leong says she forgives him, but wants apology

During the one-hour press conference, Ms Parti and her lawyer, Mr Anil Balchandani, shed light on how difficult the past four years have been as they sought to prove her innocence.

Ms Parti was sentenced to 26 months' jail in March 2019 after she was found guilty in a district court of stealing S$34,000 worth of items from Mr Liew’s family.

The sentence was overturned by Justice Chan Seng Onn on Friday who ruled that the district court had failed to consider several points including the credibility of the testimony of Mr Liew’s son, Mr Karl Liew.

Good morning valuebuddies.
Yesterday (7 sep), Paul Chew upgraded MM to $2.50 with the following outlook/driver:
1. Recovery in the semiconductor cycle: Using Taiwan back end semiconductor volumes as a barometer of the cycle, we believe another volume growth cycle is underway. As per Figure 1, a typical cycle of volume growth in units can last for an average of 33 months. The current cycle that started in September 2019 is only 10 months. The steepness in volume growth is not clear. But additional applications for semiconductors in automobile, telecommunications, IOT and gaming will be key catalysts. The usage of MMH consumables is dependent more on volumes than semiconductor prices.

2. US operations penetrating the front-end semi chain: US operations has been in losses for the past five of six years. The loss in FY20 was a minor S$100k. With the announcement of the qualification of a new project with a family of ultra-critical parts in the wafer-fabrication (or front-end) process, we expect a major turnaround for the U.S. operations.

Thank you Paul Chew.
Thanks for proactive reporting on Micro-Mechanics.
What is most amazing is under the Negative section,

Paul just put a word NIL.

Liew Mun Leong retires from CAG, other public service and business roles after court's decision on Parti Liyani case

"After much deliberation, I have decided to bring forward my retirement from the various public service and business roles with Changi Airport Group, Surbana Jurong, Temasek Foundation, and Temasek International with immediate effect," Mr Liew said in a statement to the media.

"Those who know me, will know I am passionate about the roles and missions of these organisations. I do not wish my current situation to be a distraction to their respective boards, management and staff, amidst their many critical priorities."

He added that throughout the investigations and trial, he and his family members had cooperated fully with the police.

In his statement, he said he made the report as he believed that if "there were suspicions of wrongdoing, it is our civic duty to report the matter to the police and let the authorities investigate accordingly".

Singapore is still stuck in a bear market - Royston Yang
3 things you need to know
https://thesmartinvestor.com.sg/singapor...d-to-know/

1. GDP contraction, falling by 13.2% in 2nd quarter 2020
2. Total employment plunged by 103,500 in June - highest single month on record
3. STI in bear market
4. Growth is present outside of STI

Truth be told, our local stocks contain a significant mish-mash of old economy-type business.

These would include essential services companies such as Sheng Siong and Micro-Mechanics.
There are pockets of strong growth too, but they mostly outside of the STI, eg. iFAST.
For income-driven investors, they can still find companies with robust prospects that offer an attractive dividend yield, eg. Venture.

There are many ways how a forums can distinguish itself from others.
For one, sticking to investment topics is one.
Where every valuebuddies come and share their investment ideas and also get some new ideas too.

However, other than investment, there could be some fun.
Like the saying, investment is serious fun too.

Especially true with C19, everyone is working from home.
Do share some of your insight (not just investment) if it make sense to you.

I hope moderator don't mind thou - seriously.

Anyway, for those who wanted to know about Micro-Mechanics,

We know that Micro-Mechanics does not have visible IP such as patents, trademarks, copyrights...

We are also awked by its ability to generate >50% GP operating in China, USA etc too.

Yesterday, when I was watching Elon talking about a machine that builds a machine. I was trying to connect to Micro-Mechanics.

Granted that Micro Mechanics does not have a machine that makes a machine, however, it does had a machine that make precision custom parts for advanced manufacturing sector especially for it's semiconductor customers.

Elon also mentioned order or 2 order of magnitude designing a production plant for the products.  It's easy to design a product, however, it will be 10x more challenging to design a production line for mass producing the same product.
He clarify further that it's relatively easy to build a prototype aka one piece and would be 10x more difficult to build 1,000 pieces says in one day.

What strikes me is he shared one of his experience in designing a product and the production line.

Elon had a chance to build a product and also production line.
Instead of focusing on the design of the product first, he decided to design the production line AND the product in parallel.

Based on the feedback of production line design, like some parts is more difficult to produce, the product (design) was adjusted so that it's simplify the manufacturing process.
Elon concluded that eventually, the product remains essentially the same, provide the same functionality, looks and feel and yet could be manufactured faster, cheaper with better quality.

In my mind, I connected Micro-Mechanics with it's clients (and eventually it's customers too).  I thought that some valuebuddies assume that those engineers in the semicon factories prefers to use Micro-Mechanics because they had been working with Micro-Mechanics aka comfort zone.  Of course, what valuebuddies implying is hence, this is not the most cost effective way for the semicon factories. Which further implies that if the management is aware that their engineer choose to work with Micro-Mechanics instead of another supplier (MM's competitor) to get a better price, then we would assume that these semicon factories management will have a wake up call and then their engineers would be forced to investigate alternatives and hence Micro-Mechanics will have to (force) cut it's price and take in a  lower profit margin.

I agree and this would be a major risk to own Micro-Mechanics.
Of course, the way I mitigate the risk is to observe MM's published KPI and look out for this event.

However, after I heard what Elon explaining how by building a production line, in parallel to a product, yields the benefit of feedback on the product design, gives me a feeling that this is what had happened to Micro-Mechanics, supporting it's clients (and of course it's customers), too.

We know that Micro-Mechanics products need to be qualified/certified before use.  Furthermore, likely Micro-Mechanics is engaged at a very early stage even at product (and production line) design stage.
If this is true, then definitely this would add to the stickiness of Micro-Mechanics when the production line started and the product is launched.

No wonder?

Stay home and stay safe, everyone.
