Anyone knows how is BA London Eye doing? Eiffel Tower? How is it that London Eye and Eiffel Tower can draw long queues every day?
I have not gone up the Flyer, and in fact, seldom anywhere near:
1. Price is not exactly wallet friendly, pushing for a one-time visit mentality
2. Location is kinda of out of the way. It's a long walk and in a little trafficked part of the area.
3. Fringe activities are limited. No interesting restaurants or retail in close proximity to draw crowd.
4. No draw for communal activities or human traffic.
I think a major contributing factor is (3) and (4). Last I heard the restaurants are all not doing well. Flyer is hardly a place that comes up in any discussion for people to hangout.
The same cannot be said for LE or ET. You see locals walking past these attractions all the time. You see locals hangout around the area all the time. Parisians picnic at the foot of ET just about all year round. The atmosphere is simply amazing. You just want to be part of the crowd. When the area is so happening, the bustle will bring up the revenue generating capability.
Even people who never thought of visiting these attractions would want to try. Those who have tried likely would try again with their friends. Tourists would flock to the area without much selling by agents just to be part of the crowd. No tourist would visit a place with hardly anyone there right? If tourist do not even visit the attraction, how would they patronise by buying the ticket?
LE has a whole range of ticketing options. ET also has different ticket options. SF I think only has a single-tier ticket.
The thing is, would it be possible to sell a multiple visit ticket i.e. day-and-night? Certainly. The view is vastly different and people would be interested to pay say 50% more to go again as a bundle.
Would it be possible to sell repeated visits? Probably. We do not have 4 seasons to offer different views. We do not have dynamic contents in the view i.e. boats, light shows, etc. But something could have been done.
SF looks nice from far with the changing lights. But that is for the enjoyment of those not patronising them. They head over to Barrage and take photos instead. Those patronising SF do not get to enjoy this dynamism.
They need to come up with some ideas so that people would go, and want to go again. SF might need to collaborate with MBS. Light shows, fireworks, aerial demonstrations, etc. whatever that is has more value being up in the wheel.
Maybe a tie-up with duck tours and river taxi? Suntec duck to flyer to bumboat to CQ as an integrated package.
