It is a worldwide "slimming" exercise, not only in Singapore. Just in case you misunderstood.

The global number is 250K, so a 16K job cut means slightly more than 6%.

The 3D printing isn't the disruptive tech for current printing business, IMO.

not in its present form, it isn't..... but once you start to think about the possibilities with 3D printing to replace normal printing, and you do not have anything in your stable, it is too late.
Do you not think these 3D printer companies are not looking into the possibilities at this current moment?
Sooner or later, if HP do not have anything in its sleeves, it will either have to buy up a 3D printer company with a balloon cost or lose its market dominant position.

I am working in a printer company.. Can te u 3d printer got almost 0% affect on 2d printer ( in context of office environment).

If about innovation and products etc. 3D printer wi defeinetely rise.

For 2d printing, the volume is decreasing every year.

Offset printing are worst, almost 20-30% of offset printing closes down yearly. Only those big 1 are alive, and are also downsize in terms of the printer equippment and volume.

If I own a 3D printing company, the first step is to integrate current printers with 3D printers... its just another print head. You immediately break into the vast consumer printing market.

Why do u think 2D printing is going down?

The way I see it the disruption started from internet, then email then pdf and relatively recently ebook/ documents. Digitisation continues. When people are comfy with digital signatures will be another disruptive tech for printing.
Before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you invest, investigate. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. Before you retire, save. Before you die, give. –William A. Ward

People are printing less and less. I will try not to print if I can. With bigger screen and improvement in the quality of the monitors, tablets and notebooks, reading manuals and documents are not that uncomfortable as before.

It is so tough to search for a keyword in a few thousand pages in paper but it is just a second to find out all references to the keyword in a pdf or word document.

Hewlett-Packard plans to split into two companies: WSJ report
06 Oct 2014 06:57
[SAN FRANCISCO] Hewlett-Packard plans to split into two companies, separating its computer and printer businesses from its corporate hardware and services operations, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

The company plans to announce the move as early as Monday, the Journal said in a report on its web site that cited people familiar with the matter. The division would be made through a tax-free distribution of shares to stockholders next year, according to the report.

A company spokeswoman declined to comment on the report.
