Have you lived in a Kampung before?

There are many types of kampungs, I've lived in a Kampung in Singapore as well as a couple in Malaysia when I was a kid. Those were days I cherish.... when everyone knew everyone and we played marbles, made small boats or used tyres to travel the stream! It was an awesome life!

Even then we had hot water, individual toilets, tv etc...etc...

so your imagination of all Kampung's in incorrect.

Also, people don't live in Kampung's for the modern amenities it provides. They live there for the lifestyle it provides.

It seems you are not fit for a Kampung lifestyle based on your description.

Yes, we used "wood" technology. Used wood for fire to boil hot water.

And we used car battery to power tv as there is no electricity after 10 p.m.

We used "Water & pail" technology to flush toilet.

A lot of Kampung technologies. ....;p

one of the best sleep (gd for heart) i ever had was in a villager's house next to a waterfall mountain I scaled in south china. the water heater was gas-fired, electrcity for light, air-cons were powered by the waterfall..hehe..no need to buy those health benefiting negative-ions products from osim
hot water bath can also be done at the nearby open-air natural hotspring.

These days kampung is high tech, kampung got satelite TV. I went on a kelong in pulau sibu msia a few years ago, remote kelong also got satelite tv and internet these days.

It's one thing to go on vacation at a farm homestead or kelong stay for a few days romanticise about becoming a farmer or fisherman is totally different to try to live a new life in it for real.

A lot of convienience that we take for granted easy access to transport food jobs, in remote places they don't have such things so everything is on your own and DIY right down to doing repairs and for food gotta grow your own or catch it for yourself not so easy, can be back breaking physical labor that we city folk will never be able to get used to it.

To be able to live as a farmer takes a lot of practice even something as tilling land to grow vegetable not so simple lah.

Just try to imagine during your national service BMT fox hole digging that kind of DIY ... dirty back breaking and mosquito ridden ... like it? try to imagine doing that almost everyday.

Best just keep dreaming then tomorrow go to office as usual lah

Kampung no hot water? actually that's not true.
Kampung actually has an abundant supply of hot water,
just that you have to gather enough fire wood and boil your own water(maybe from the well.)
And food cooked from firewood somehow taste better.

Air-con and internet/fridge etc etc is quite possible with the use of generators.
Only concern would be the source for drinking water. Without clean water, it can be quite a hassle.
But if the place has ample rainfall and the rainwater there is free from industrial pollutants, then problem solved.
Good rain is far better to drink than chemical/chlorine filled tap water.

Looks like we are talking about Modern type of Kampung expectation.

A place where we are rich enough to buy modern equipment to life, with little hassle, with clean water and good power source. Maybe solar. Cheap land ...., garden ...., water fall ... Nice scenery, access to internet, maybe stock investment, ...and when sick can go to modern hospital and go on maybe holiday via aeroplane or cruise..

With today cost, you need to have $$$$$, and this meaning ability to get modernize with time and earn enough, and able to "retire" in such place. I guess this is many people dreams.

But you won't want to really live in a very traditional village life where you have no electrical power, no clean water, no tv, no aircon, no car, every sickness you go to traditional sinseh only, since the main topic is not to have development.

Isn't all this self-conflicting ?

The best way I see is to find a semi prosperous town somewhere in malaysia to retire in where everything moves at a slower pace but also still can enjoy modern comforts like cold beer, satelite tv, internet hot showers and aircon, mornings can go eat roti prata (they call it roti canai) or eat kampung half boiled eggs .. slurp ..
