Hi cf, circles asia is part of liberty wireless. Not sure if there is any difference. Off my memory liberty/circles was scheduled to launch in dec 2015 so they are pretty late in execution/delay due to other reasons.

Hi Thor666,

I am also not sure, but now we know, MVNO of postpaid, is in operation...

MVNO Circles.Life launches $28 telco plan

SINGAPORE (May 5): Circles.Life, a mobile virtual network operator, is offering customers 3GB of data and 100 minutes of talk time for just $28 a month. The plan includes unlimited use of WhatsApp and free caller ID.

That is less than what Singapore Telecommunications customers would pay but slightly more than what StarHub and M1 currently offer their SIM-only customers.

Hi cf, thanks for sharing. It is an attractive plan and i would have consider switch if i had no existing contract.

Seems like the real telco war has started.

Yes, the war is started, even before the new operator secures the spectrum.  Big Grin

OMGTel/MR are targeting on niche segments, with slim structures. The difference is OMGTel, has chosen a safer path, while MR has chosen an unorthodox approach on infra

The OMGTel approach is proven and has an advantage of no legacy network. The edge is diminishing, when incumbents move form 3G to 4G/5G eventually. The slim structure is meant for niche segments, which will be served eventually by MVNOs using incumbents' infra

MR approach, is yet proven, and riskier. I am skeptical on the customer acceptance, and coverage, with its budget.

IDA announces new 4G quality-of-service standards for telcos

By Cai Haoxiang

NEW 4G quality-of-service standards have been announced by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

The IDA standards relate to mobile coverage in Singapore. Mobile network operators have to cover 95 per cent of outdoor areas from July. This will increase to at least 99 per cent a year later.

Obama's web rules upheld in win for Google, loss for AT&T
15 Jun 2016 06:59
[WASHINGTON] A federal court upheld net-neutrality regulations designed to ensure an open internet, handing a victory to the Obama administration and a defeat to telephone and cable providers.

The Washington-based US Court of Appeals Tuesday acted after a decade of debate over web access that pitted Silicon Valley against companies that provide internet access to homes and businesses. The court likened internet service providers to utilities, saying they "act as neutral, indiscriminate platforms for transmission of speech."

Singapore telcos ‘positive’ amid funding woes for fourth telco contender MyRepublic: Maybank

SINGAPORE (June 24): Maybank Kim Eng is keeping its “positive” outlook on Singapore’s telecommunications sector, even as local media reported earlier this week that fourth telco contender MyRepublic is struggling to raise funds.

MyRepublic, one of the frontrunners in the race to be Singapore’s fourth mobile network operator, is coming up empty in its bid to raise $250 million to build a nationwide network despite its appointment of two major investment banks – Goldman Sachs and DBS.

“So far, nothing has been heard about Consistel, the other potential bidder,” says Maybank analyst Gregory Yap in a report on Wednesday.

The latest update from both MyRepublic, and OMGtel on their funding...

4th telco hopefuls to get funding in time for spectrum auction, says UOB KayHian

SINGAPORE (June 28): MyRepublic and OMGtel are both likely to secure the necessary funding to participate in the auction spectrum come September, according to UOB Kay Hian’s analyst Jonathan Koh, who met with the fourth telco hopefuls.

MyRepublic has raised $30 million in April and received term sheets from four serious investors for the equity portion of $150 million. It also added that it will be selecting one of them to be its strategic partner in July, and cautioned that the funds would be raised in a series of tranches over a period of time.

Meanwhile, OMGtel has raised more than $60 million, the minimum required for the auction, which comprises a $35 million reserve price and the performance bond of $25 million. Koh also noted that another two big investors could potentially come on board in July, a large listed local company and an international private equity company, to raise the equity portion of between $300 million to $400 million.

Both MyRepublic and OMGtel will also lodge their binding expression of interest with iDA in mid July, and iDA will be expected to release the results of the pre-qualification in early August. UOB Kay Hian expects the New Entrant Spectrum Auction to be conducted in September and the General Spectrum Auction in October.

If funding cannot get in time, in what way can IDA allow Myrepublic and OMGTel to bid and maintain service levels?

I dont think IDA will ever stand in and be funding partner

Funding is unlikely, as regulator. I reckon, the best IDA can do, is to delay the bidding, but there are more than just timing issue for their funding.
