AUD down supposed to be good for their hotel business but I reckon market disruptor like AirBnB will affect to some degree. Also with glut of apartments everywhere now, many investors are moving to AirBnB platform as well.

It is very likely even with successful completion of MPV, the profits will be retained and channel into buying another hotel or some other excuse to avoid a bumper dividend payout.

Questions:
1) What is your definition of “crumbs”, as measured by DPS alone or by ratio of DPS/EPS?
2) If SLC occasionally gives some crumbs to OPMI when times are good, what did SLC give to OPMI when “times are bad” or “normal”?
3) Over the last 15 years (FY2002 to FY2016), in which years were “crumbs” “occasionally” distributed to OPMI?
4) Was giving “crumbs” the “norm” or the “exception”?

To some, the DPS cut last year appeared “abnormal” and has taken many by surprise.  Going forward, it is of anybody’s guess as to whether the “norm” would be restored or the “abnormal” become the “new normal”.

Unless you have CONfused “breads” with “crumbs” OR “norm” with “exception”, otherwise, your “occasionally give some crumbs to OPMI when times are good.” is an “understatement”.

What is the value of making an argument based on an “understatement”?

The impact of Airbnb on the hotel industry is an interesting one. So far, it appears that Airbnb has dipped into revenues of the lower end hotels including budget hotels, but not the higher end four and five star hotels, yet. I could be wrong, but I don’t see how they could compete with the four and five star hotels.

When MPV is successfully completed, SLC is likely to be in a net cash position. With the Management controlling less than 41% of the company, the lower the share price, the more “vulnerable” it is being a target of takeover…………

Market Cap of < SGD 400 m for 7 hotels + Dynon's Plaza. Very attractive target indeed !

RE: Stamford Land
Re AirBnB, I asked this to OCK after the last AGM and his response was that they serve in a different segment and has no impact on SL biz. He said the high end segment customer wants a full fledge service and that only 5 star hotel can provide and not the AirBnB. Separately I watched a CNBC interview of the owner of Regal Hotels in HK and the daughter who is running the hotel chain echoes similar response on the AirBnB trend. So I think this is not something that will keep them awake.

Another question to OCK which will be more of a concern to SL is the merger of big hotel chains recently. These large hotel chains has established good loyalty programs to retain their customers globally and will be out of reach for SL. SL do not belong to any group and very OZ base. Their overseas customers do not enjoy any privilege in staying in a SL hotel while in Aus. My guess is that the end game for SL hotels will be acquired by one of these large hotel chains. OCK is holding out for a good price. Meantime develop/convert whatever properties to residential/commercial if it make sense.

Being an independent brand like Marco Polo, Parkroyal, Pan Pacific etc, Stamford can always join the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) platform which offer royalty programmes to customers/members - without being acquired by or merged with a bigger group.

Stamford Land's COO Thomas Ong interview last month with a Chinese Adelaide newspaper. Certain business directions could be gleaned from it. In particular :

Surprise in 2017 ?  What can this be ?

You could be right……develop condo in Adelaide …………this could be one of the DA they were talking about…..but treat it as pure speculation at this stage…………………

What implications would this have on the redevelopment potentials of the Stamford Grand Adelaide site which is situated in Glenelg District ?

May be zero or may be huge………………….

RE: Stamford Land
Management advised revenues of MPV will be booked from 4Q17 onward . In this case , higher dividend can be expected to be declared by end May . But how likely the revenues can miss the 4Q booking ?
