SINGAPORE (June 7): Not all shareholders are created equal, as associate editor Leu Siew Ying finds out in this week’s edition of The Edge Singapore. Minority shareholders of Singapore Exchange-listed but Bermuda-incorporated companies continue to face administrative hurdles when it comes to voting in annual general meetings (AGMs).

In 2005, companies listed in Singapore were required to amend their by-laws to comply with the Security Industry Council’s code on takeovers and mergers. Still, there are at least 12 Bermuda-incorporated companies with primary listings on SGX that have not amended their by-laws to allow local shareholders to attend shareholder meetings without returning a proxy form to the CDP.
