Woman gets probation for entering casino with stolen work permit
By Elena Chong
A woman who stole her colleague's work permit to enter the Resorts World Sentosa casino was placed on 18 months' probation on Thursday.
Ellie Tan Ai Li, 25, who is expecting a child in December, had admitted to stealing the work permit from Malaysian sales assistant Liw Ker Lee, 23, at Pure Milk, Bugis Junction, on May 1, and entering the casino the next day without paying the entry levy of $100.
The Singaporean former retail operation manager removed the work permit from her colleague's wallet at the store room on May 1, and used it to enter the casino the next day.
When she lost all her money at the gambling table, she started asking patrons for money. A security manager took her to the office where it was discovered that she had been under a self-exclusion order since September last year.
District Judge John Ng ordered Tan, who had a gambling addiction, to do 30 hours of community service, attend counselling at the National Addictions Management Services.
She was further ordered not to step into the RWS and Marina Bay Sands casinos during her probation period. Her father signed a $1,000 bond to ensure her good behaviour.
