S$231 shop-bought device can unlock an iPhone within hours

LONDON — Apple’s iPhones can be unlocked using a £120 (S$231) code breaker, in the wake of an FBI lawsuit demanding the Californian company create a backdoor into its phones to aid an investigation.

The device, called an IP Box, can be easily purchased online and from a shop in Sheffield, and managed to crack the passcode on an iPhone 5C within six hours, found the Mail on Sunday.

And just like me, he is afraid of the commies...

India thwarts Apple's plan to sell cheaper refurbished iPhones

NEW DELHI — India has rejected Apple’s request to import and sell refurbished iPhones to the world’s second largest mobile population, dealing a blow to its plans to court price-conscious consumers there.

The company’s application has been turned down, a telecommunications ministry official told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday (May 3). He declined to be identified because of official policy.

The decision — the second time Apple has been refused by the government in as many years — involved several ministries as well as the Prime Minister’s Office.

Apple’s rivals had mounted a public campaign against the effort, arguing that such a move would trigger a flood of used electronics while defeating the government’s Make-in-India programme to encourage local manufacturing.

I think it's his 2 other managers who bought apple.
He has always said tech is not within his field of expertise.

Anyway, Berkshire owns apple now, and will prob do so for some time to come.

Thanks for sharing.
Informative and useful.
However, this is just 1 part of it - an analysis of its fundamentals.
How about relating this fundamentals to the share price?
As in, is it currently a buy, hold or sell in your opinion, and based on current valuations, what would be your target price within a certain time frame?
IMO, the hardest part is this 2nd part. Linking research to the realities of the market.

My investment style is I do not have a target price, only an entry price (pg 3,4), which is very much dependent on each person's required rate of return. The underlying belief is that for solid companies, it is difficult to foresee how much stronger or valuable it will become-time is best friend of the great company. Rather it would be  easier to tell whether based on current prices, the company based on current fundamentals is sufficiently underpriced.

Looks like another bad investment for Buffett, at least in the short term. Apple jialat liao loh..

The 230 billion dollars cash they have around the world is being aimed for by every country government tax office. No where for Apple to run.

EU finance ministers line up behind tax ruling against Apple
https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/eu-fin...28069.html

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) — EU finance ministers lined up Saturday behind an EU Commission ruling that technology giant Apple owes billions of euros because it didn't pay the proper tax in the European Union for more than a decade.

Going into the last session of their two-day meeting, Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem and others urged Apple to pay a bill that analysts say could reach 19 billion euros ($21 billion) with interest.

The ministers are discussing ways to harmonize tax rules for international companies. Dijsselbloem told reporters that these companies "have an obligation to pay taxes in a fair way."
"International tax loopholes are a thing of the past," he added.

Apple will have to pay back taxes both in the United States and Europe, he said, "so get ready to do that."

Philip Hammond, his British counterpart, said the EU was keen "to make sure that international corporations pay the right tax at the right place."

"That's the fair way to do it, and we are going to make sure it happens," Hammond said.
