I think the article writer is being too pessimistic....so far it's always been "record high visitors" and "record-high spending". Why should this year be different? If you notice Singaporeans' love affair with gadgets, I don't see why records cannot keep getting broken!

PC Show expected to match last year's 1m visitors

SINGAPORE's longest-running IT and consumer electronics show, the PC Show, opens today. The fair, which is into its 21st year, will run over the weekend to close on Sunday.
Some 600 exhibitors over an exhibition space of 350,000 square feet will trot out their wares.
The show's attendance and sales figures have been fairly consistent over the past years. Last year, it attracted about a million visitors and generated $52 million in sales, which was comparable to the previous year's reception as well.
Gillian Loh, project manager at Lines Exposition and Management Service, which organised the PC Show, said customer interest this year appears to be swinging towards connectivity gadgets which bring the Internet into more spaces. One such technology is Web-enabled media players, which bring social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to TV sets.
Lenovo, one of the exhibitors at the show, also expects this interest to translate into greater demand for its mobile devices, said Ms Loh. Another PC vendor, Hewlett-Packard (HP), is expecting warm consumer sentiment for lifestyle and music-related hardware.
Serena Yong, HP Singapore, personal systems group general manager, said its entertainment-focused Beats-branded PCs and laptops are expected to move at the show.
Microsoft's Ian Tan, marketing manager, Singapore, specialised devices and applications, also noted the trend towards entertainment options.
To that end, the PC peripherals maker will exhibit new products such as low-cost high-definition Web cam as well as its new Xbox 360 gaming attachment, the Kinect. The Kinect is part of the consumer trend towards looking for increasingly immersive high-definition experiences at home, he noted.
Mr Tan added that he expects sales at the show this year to match or surpass last year's figure.
The show is one of four large consumer electronics shows in Singapore, the others being the IT Show in March, Comex in August and Sitex in November. The PC Show takes place on levels 1, 3, 4 and 6 of Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
