DoorDash was once the smallest food delivery player in the US, until Softbank came along with its half a billion, helped it to knock Grubhub (the top and first player) off its leadership position and now has 50-60% of the US food delivery market.

For VBs who are accustomed with listening from podcasts, an interesting review of the future of food delivery that DoorDash is aggressively pursuing via synthesizing the available data and working with restaurant owners below:

Virtual brands: A customer order a "Chicky chicken sandwich" and a list of restaurants are able to fulfill it

Ghost kitchens: when I order a "shake shack burger", it is picked up in a kitchen that makes all different sorts of burgers.

DoorDash shares tumble as Amazon takes stake in Grubhub

The San Francisco-based startup tumbled as much as 11 per cent in New York trading, taking the stock down more than 70 per cent from the highs touched in November. Ride-hailing service Uber Technologies, which also has a food-delivery unit, fell over 4 per cent.

The Grubhub deal is part of a partnership where Amazon will offer US Prime users a 1-year membership to the food delivery service. Grubhub is owned by Just Eat Takeaway.com, whose shares surged in Amsterdam on Wednesday.
