I do not know what could trigger analyst to cover a stock either. I do know of analyst coverage on illiquid stocks, for example, Tai Sin. UOH KH initial coverage early this year, which I think is one or two years late already since TS price has already appreciate substantially. But maybe they have been accumulating long enough and big enough to issue a report to boost up the price further? Just my speculation. But if that is the intention, the volume and price of TS has hardly move since the report.

Valuetronics is another example mentioned by CY09.

It is more important to do own homework first before putting down hard earned money, than to wait for analyst reports.
