However what I am shocked is this statement: In particular, they cannot defame someone else without basis, which essentially means knowingly stating a falsehood to the public," it stated.

AFAIK the court haven't decided on the merit of the case. This kind of statement brings back old memories. Though like i posted i think Roy deserve it, but one should be presumed legally innocent until proven guilty. TTSH basically 画蛇添足 putting its own self in a spot if Roy has the capacity to sue on wrongful dismissal on wrongful presumption

I didn't follow the case closely, but IIRC, Roy did make public apology, and acknowledged the baseless defamation. TTSH is fully justify to make the statement, IMO.

The court case is not on the defamation, but the compensation, right?

It is about defamation: see my post in another thread Smile
1a Roy took down post
1b Instead posted summary of what he posted before and made a video (?)
1c Offered $5k compensation

Whether justifiable or not, the sacking is just going to swell the negative sentiments further and bring anxiety to people in the middle ground not caught in this whole issue.

So the easy thing for TTSH to do is treat Roy like a 'VIP' just because it is 'politically sensitive' to sack him, even if there is reasonable grounds to do so???

TTSH just have to justify their actions publicly. No need to scared here scared there. If not, affect staff morale and discipline. Cannot give in to those who makes/KP the most noise. (Except when you are shareholder/owner in listed company scenarios. Hahah) If you incentivize this type of behaviour, you will get more of the same.

Agree. Any company/organisation worth their salt would have done the same thing. Whether its Roy or anyone else or actions leading up to this sacking is immaterial.

If you are the boss, what do you do to a staff who is doing something else besides what he/she is hired to do?

Give warning and if still dont comply then sack. Isn't this what TTSH has done? And i am sure they will have all the evidence to back their actions.

Agree with opmi and Level13. My issue as I described above is that it is very obvious to any observer that someone in TTSH is trying too hard to please... and now of course we have this:

Roy MAY have the capacity to sue for wrongful dismissal. But what are the chances of winning? 0.000001%? 0.000002%?

Big Toe I agree... that's why I said "capacity to sue" Smile This flaw in the system is obvious in the case of NKF TT Durai where the accuser that said Durai flew first class had to make a public apology. We all know the NKF saga how it unfolded when Durai tried to pull the same stunt on SPH.

So does Roy has the capacity to sue TTSH for distorting the judicial process? Depends if he can raise another $100k I guess Smile

In investment, the most obvious example locally is Oei Hoong Leong who has the capacity to play the legal arena
