IMHO this is a meaningless incentive because who is going to sacrifice their sleep and wake up early just to save 50 cents? The savings work out to $11 a month, if this makes a difference to you, you need to find a better-paying job, or learn how to save money e.g. drink at coffeeshops instead of Starbucks, or drink tap water instead of buying drinks etc.
I personally feel it is just another example of stupidity at SMRT. Just like the night-time ERP charge - Prime Minister says "make babies" but LTA says "pay up" before you can go home to your spouse. Hello?
