SMRT carried more than 70 passengers per kilometer of train operations, according to the Land Transport Authority. That’s more than 60 for Tokyo, and far exceeds those for cities including Hong Kong and Chicago, it said.
Hard to believe that SMRT is carrying more passengers/km than Tokyo! Especially if you'd seen the visual images of passengers being pushed into the train carriages by train workers during rush hours. Extracts from wikipedia,
Trains are often extremely crowded at peak travel times, with people being pushed into trains by so-called oshiya ("pushers").
My guess is they are using figures that encompasses Greater Tokyo (which includes the more ulu suburbs) rather than just the City Centre.
