Market share in China market, where Xiaomi is leading...
Xiaomi beats Samsung in Chinese smartphone market: Canalys SEOUL — Xiaomi, a Chinese handset-maker little known in the West, overtook tech giant Samsung to become China’s top-selling smartphone brand in the second quarter, a market research company said today (Aug 5). According to Canalys, Xiaomi sold 15 million smartphones in China during the second quarter, more than a three-fold surge from a year earlier. It surpassed Samsung, which had the leading position in China for more than two years, as well as local brands such as Lenovo and Huawei. From the period of April to June, Samsung’s China smartphone sales decreased to 13.2 million units from 15.5 million a year earlier. Lenovo trailed Samsung by a margin of 2 million units. ... http://www.todayonline.com/tech/xiaomi-b...et-canalys

Internet TV market is getting very crowded with big boys...
China’s Xiaomi to invest US$1 billion to expand internet TV content BEIJING - China’s Xiaomi Technology Co Ltd said today (Nov 4) it would spend US$1 billion (S$1.29 billion) to expand its internet TV content as the world’s third largest smartphone maker ramps up its push into the living room, and a market estimated to be worth $3 billion. Xiaomi’s burgeoning TV unit includes its Xiaomi TV as well as a set-top box, which both use its software and content. The company is best known for its budget smartphones and tablets that have won it legions of fans worldwide. In a post on its official Weibo microblog, Xiaomi said it had hired Mr Chen Tong, a former executive at Chinese internet firm Sina Corp, to overhaul the TV business and make it more “diverse and exciting”. “We want to repeat the success of Xiaomi’s hardware integration model in the television industry,” Mr Chen said at a press conference, according to Xiaomi’s microblog. The company did not to provide further details. Xiaomi’s expansion of its internet TV business pits it against local internet companies including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, Tencent Holdings Ltd and Baidu Inc , all of which have recently increased their investment into internet TV, a market Chinese consultancy iResearch says is estimated to be worth $3 billion in 2014. Xiaomi said it could invest further in internet TV in the future. REUTERS http://www.todayonline.com/world/asia/ch...tv-content

The next tech giant, and will it break the IPO record?
Xiaomi eyes new funding that would skyrocket value to S$64b BEIJING — Last year, China’s Xiaomi netted a financing round that valued the then-three-year-old mobile start-up at US$10 billion (S$12.9 billion). Now, just a little more than a year later, Xiaomi is in the early stages of talks for a funding round that could value the world’s third-largest smartphone maker at about US$40 billion to US$50 billion (S$64.5 billion), people familiar with the matter said. Founder and chief executive officer Lei Jun has pushed Xiaomi, which sells direct to consumers and only released its first smartphone in 2011, into new markets from Singapore to India. The international expansion, combined with surging sales of its Mi 4 smartphone and low-cost Redmi model, have vaulted the company into the ranks of the world’s top vendors. “They have a cost advantage over many of the larger vendors because of their online sales model,” said Mr James Roy, a Shanghai-based analyst at China Market Research Group. “It’s been a really dramatic rise for Xiaomi in the past four years from nothing.” The valuation surpasses more established Asian electronics makers including Sony, which has a market capitalisation of about US$21 billion, and Lenovo Group’s $16 billion. ... http://www.todayonline.com/tech/xiaomi-e...value-s64b
