Can something like "inbreeding" happens here? i mean hey how come we all like and buy the same stock, Eventually?
Just thinking aloud. No offence intended.
WB:-

1) Rule # 1, do not lose money.
2) Rule # 2, refer to # 1.
3) Not until you can manage your emotions, you can manage your money.

Truism of Investments.
A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.

NB:-
My signature is meant for psychoing myself. No offence to anyone. i am trying not to lose money unnecessary anymore.

This is an awesome idea.

Although I have to admit that I've been out of Popular for some months now. Also lots of other companies that I'm vested in but nothing to add to the discussion so I'm a lurker on those.

But good idea nonetheless.

It is very much possible. If laziness, greed and guilibility slowly takes over, groupthink develops. Unless you have personal issues, no1 will naturally hate the warm-ness to be part of the crowd's safety.

This is not forgetting that there continue to exist many stock promoters who are secretly playing a mini 'pump and dump' trick here.

Actually, this list does help me to avoid the overly popular stocks. (i like less volatility, more consistent growth in my portfolio)

So I guess it depends on personal investing style.

I dun agree that there is a group think involved.

There are a few reasons I can think of.

1) The simplest reason is also probably the correct one. Most of them are fundamentally sound companies. Whether by chance or by design, I dun find it surprising that more people are invested in fundamentally sound companies.

2) It could also be that fellow VBuddies take a closer look at companies that has been mentioned in this forum. Some may choose to invest in companies after they have been highlighted by other members. (Penguin, Boustead, Vicom are companies that comes to mind)

As for stock promoters who are secretly playing a mini 'pump and dump', frankly I dun see why they bother. VB has never (and long may it never) attract the kind of postings and traffic that would make this even mildly viable to begin with.

Of cos its precisely the low volume of post that ultimately make this exercise a little less useful than it could potentially be. So actually I think it would be interesting if gzbkel can run the exercise over at HWZ Stock forum. Just to see what comes out.

Unfortunately, in the stocks forum of HWZ, "company threads" and "general discussion threads" are mixed in the same forum, so I cannot use the same method. Also, users there do not usually use words like "vested" or "divested".

I do have similar interest on the HWZ stock forum exercise. It will be very interesting.

How about on NextInsight?

I am not familiar with NextInsight, but taking a quick look, I see the same problem as HWZ ("company threads" and "general discussion threads" mixed in the same forum), so it will not be easy to filter away the noise.
