this past week or so, there has been some consistent buying at 4.06.
my guess is that some investors are positioning themselves for a potential increase in the share price after the offer closes. recent case would be olam, or an older example could be wing tai.
olam's offer was 2.23.after offer closed, share price reached a high of 2.56. now around 2.39
wing tai's case was a partial offer at $1.39. after offer closed, share priced reached a high of around 2.27. now around $2.03.
of course all this would take time for value to be created and realised.

if "smart money" or big time investors like mr ong and wheelock are willing to put their money in at $4.05, it is likely that they see good potential in the company.
as a long term investment, i would guess that current prices could possibly be a decent entry level. just my views.

just for illustration purposes:
if one followed and bought wingtai at 1.39, they would be up almost 50% today.
if hpl follows this case study, hpl's price has the possibility to reach $6.
time and patience needed of course.

yes, patience and holding for the mid-long term should hopefully pay off well!

olam up 3.8% today.
looks like value being created for olam slowly and steadily.
hopefully this will be the case for hpl after the takeover offer too.
