Very bad call by TTSH, in terms of political damage to PAP. I seriously think it is a over zealous supporter that made a miscalculated move. Whether justifiable or not, the sacking is just going to swell the negative sentiments further and bring anxiety to people in the middle ground not caught in this whole issue.

AFAIK the court haven't decided on the merit of the case. This kind of statement brings back old memories. Though like i posted i think Roy deserve it, but one should be presumed legally innocent until proven guilty. TTSH basically 画蛇添足 putting its own self in a spot if Roy has the capacity to sue on wrongful dismissal on wrongful presumption
I didn't follow the case closely, but IIRC, Roy did make public apology, and acknowledged the baseless defamation. TTSH is fully justify to make the statement, IMO.
The court case is not on the defamation, but the compensation, right?

I did dismiss staffs, due to incompetency. The normal course of action are, verbal warning, warning letter, and the final one is verbally inform the staff on the decision, and let him hand-in the resignation.
The company achieves it purpose, and the staff resume will not be undermined.
I assume the TTSH was doing the same, and Roy has chosen not to hand-in the resignation, thus the "sack".

Agree. Any company/organisation worth their salt would have done the same thing. Whether its Roy or anyone else or actions leading up to this sacking is immaterial.
If you are the boss, what do you do to a staff who is doing something else besides what he/she is hired to do?
Give warning and if still dont comply then sack. Isn't this what TTSH has done? And i am sure they will have all the evidence to back their actions.
There are no good stocks. Stocks are only good when they go up after you bought them.

I am not sure how easy it is to fire someone at govt-run hospital. In some sector of the civil service u can't give an E grade without giving a D grade, and you can't give a D grade without telling him or her what is lacking so that he/ her has 6 months to pull up her socks. Of course, if someone broke the law, then its different. Did te blogger broke the law yet? And the reason cited for dismissal? Is there evidence of warnings?
How long has his blog nonsense come out in the open? Heavy hand to me if u ask me. Also, u can only fire someone 3 months after E grade.

I remember Dr Chee Soon Juan was dismissed from NUS when he falsified his taxi claims and so used research funds to send his wife’s doctoral thesis to the US. His boss was a PAP MP at that time. Chee claimed that the moved was politically motivated, but the courts found him guilty eventually.
If one has a political ideology different from the ruling party, and if that person is working in a government agency, shouldn’t he be extra careful in his action? Our society is a lot more open now as compared to during the 70s, 80s even 90s, but that does not means they is no boundaries.
Roy’s action is like playing with fire, there is a Chinese saying 老虎嘴边拔毛. I hope society can give this young man a second chance in life and this young man learn to be responsible in his action.
