20K, it's better to buy a 5 year old car.

But the problem is my Vios is very "funny".
2nd-hand car dealers keep on pasting leaflets on my wind screen to ask me to sell.
And i think the reasons are due to my " special minor car accidents".
My Vios has brand new back bumper/booth assembly, front bumper/bonnet assembly, aircon condenser/fan assembly, cooling liquid, starter, alternator, car body and paint quite beautiful, etc..
Plus i follow maintenance schedules quite well as i was/am a "born technician "throughout my life".
Plus, plus the car's body and paint and interiors are O. K. since day one the car has been parked in HDB sheltered carpark, most of the time. (Aka not working since 53).
Even when i am driving, i like to park the car in the "shade".
Never like to sit on very hot driving seat after the SUN does it's work.

I am a Fussy Pot isn't it?
But then everyone has his own idiosyncrasy, i believe.
What's yours?
Have you discovered it yet?
So is it worth to keep my Vios for another 5 years, when the time comes? Ten years seem not worth due to 50 % more for road tax.
i understand only 5 years COE extension is a recent concession by LTA.
Thanks for all the inputs.

Temp, I am silently confident that a special event will occur when we are nearing 2016. Lots of cars are going to be scrapped this year and next.
There might be a chance to get COE discount of say 20%?

Is this discount worth it for the price of convenience? Or can we make it work harder in the share market and wait for another new low for COE?
I also suspect near 2016 some special goodies w be given out, to make citizens a bit happier. Maybe a different category to seperate the foreigner and locals. Be patients n the Coe may go on sale. Usually every 4 yrs goodies w be handed out
Alas! i can wait only till 03 Aug. 2015 + 1 month grace by paying a penalty. HOPE GE IS IN 2015 lol!
If need to scrap car, how the best way to do it?

Temp, probably LTA will inform you on this scrapping. Like what valuebuddies said. The COE is over-valued. Just by keeping the money in the pocket feels shiok than buying that paper. Of cos, we will not keep it, we will invest it and in time buy back a cheap transport when COE is at its true intrinsic value. :p

lol COE got no intrinsic value Big Grin

My job calls for me to get around fast and often making deliveries.
Just scrapped my car(10 yrs, did not think of renewing as COE is far too high, my job does not pay that well)
So got a used van, still expensive(but slightly cheaper than renewing CEO at current rates) but what to do?
If I dont have to make deliveries, I would probably get a scooter or ride a bicycle.

Somehow I just dont like the idea of waiting for public transport and squeezing into jam packed trains.
Rather cycle. Once you get used to it, cycling almost gets you anywhere. Only concern is whether there's a place to shower after a long ride.

Cycling is an option, but not on the road, may be on the PCN, but it depends on availability. Cycling on road is not safe, even for professionals.

Ya not safe! i saw some "Ang Mos" cycling on our roads like cycling back home leh!
i used to cycle but on the pavement whenever i could.
But some people just like to walk on the sides of the road even when there are safety of road pavement for them to walk.
i have come across several times when i was driving especially through my HDB estate. Such carelessness or couldn't care less attitude about their own safety. Tak Boleh Tahan--have to make way for them or accident may occur.
It really piss me off.

COE is a very lucrative business, what is LTA's annual revenues from this creative invention ?

I wonder how long LTA or any relevant authorities will live up to this. Not too long ago, I was forced to give way to one cyclist and I was driving so slow just for that person to ride through and for me to turn left.

Was left stunned when I turn to look at the cyclist. He shown me the finger. If there should be a road safety regime for drivers or riders on the road, I believe the cyclists all clad up in gears will need to pass a test on road safety.

I overheard someone saying that COE is not counted in LTA's books as revenue. It is termed as expenses. I.e. Those road works done during any time of the economy are funded by this money.

In a great business model, we are always in surplus and there is always money to drive the economy if required.

Uncle Temp, we need to understand the cultural differences between Singapore and China on road.

In Singapore, car has the priority on road. Pedestrians need to watch out for cars. But in China, drivers need to watch out for pedestrians instead.

I dare not drive when in China, not due to its left-hand driving, but the pedestrian behaviour.

Could it be that the cyclist already very tired.
Then, you drive behind him and kept closing from behind?

(of course, to you, you drive very slowly lar but to him, he is cycling with his last oz of oxygen?)
