Ms Yingluck swift reaction to Thai's deadlock... Will the Thai's stock market react positively?

Thai PM to dissolve parliament, call elections

BANGKOK — Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today (Dec 9) she will dissolve parliament and hold an election “as soon as possible”, following a wave of anti-government protests in Bangkok.

“At this stage, when there are many people opposed to the government from many groups, the best way is to give back the power to the Thai people and hold an election. So the Thai people will decide,” Ms Yingluck said in a televised address.

She added that she will request a royal decree to dissolve Parliament.

play poker. Calling the Bangkok elite and aristocrats bluff.
Thaksin probably know he has more chips (popular votes) than the elites.

Yes, anyway Pheu Thai was the legit winner for the 2011 election.

In fact, the opposition has to worry if they have to go into the elections. That was why Suthep called for the "People's Council" and for a monarch-appointed Prime Minister. You never see them mention about "re-election".

Basically this time round is not the red shirt, the yellow - elites+royals don't want amnesty for thaksin to come back. Yingluck is thaksin last card I think he's run out of people to help him. So dissolving parliament is being one step ahead of the army from taking possible action like having another coup. If a coup happens and yingluck has to flee it's gg for thaksin.

so this buys some time but without long term military backing is also no use, I'm sure thaksin has secret military supporters waiting in the wings to appear when the king no longer around.

‘I must do my duty’: Thai PM

BANGKOK — Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today (Dec 10) she would not resign ahead of national elections set for Feb 2, despite opposition demands she step down as the caretaker head of government.

Ms Yingluck spoke one day after she announced elections — and one day after the main opposition leader ended a massive protest rally of 150,000 people by insisting his movement had now assumed broad political power.

The streets of Bangkok were quiet today, a national holiday, after weeks of sometimes violent political turmoil as protesters demand Ms Yingluck give up power to an unelected “people’s council”.

Well-played. If it goes into elections, Pheu Thai will win.

Anyway, "people's council" is not going to work. Give it a few more months and it will be the red shirt calling for a new government.

when the old king is not around, the new king is Thaksin best buddy. Thats why elite and aristocrats are scared of Thaksin.

Until another strongman the likes of Thaksin emerge, I believe we will continue to see turmoil in Thailand's politics for sometime to come. The same happened to Indonesia. There was a period of instability post Suharto era, until Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

what I read is that the military elites control or have links to a lot or all of the vice going on in thailand.

So when thaksin first came into office one of the things he did he cleaned up a lot of this vice. He had war on drugs campaign and went after a lot of mafia, drug syndicates and these people were doing business with the military so he stepped in a lot of places and made many enemies. So when thaksin fled guess what happened all the vice returned, business back to usual again.

Usually what I see in politics you cannot eat all the cake by yourself you must share even with those that you do not like everybody must get something otherwise one day they will overthrow you same thing happen to suharto and also phippline president ramos.

For my opnion thailand under thaksin was a different animal and bad for Singapore not just about shincorp, I feel they are more effcient and more business oriented than us. We were once the shopping paradise in South East Asia for tourism then he came in and in a few years unseated us. Today you notice nobody comes to shop here anymore they come here for 2 days then go thailand to shop our own people also do that all go thailand to shop, you see our shopping malls many empty.

They also came up with ideas like medical tourism and also wanted to build kra canal like suez canal, had he still been in power I think PSA close shop already.

Exactly... Like what YL says, if Thai people can be united then there will be many things to share.

Unfortunately, opposition don't buy her idea.
Will 'People Council' make Thailand better?

Your guess is as good as mine.
