Creative Technology

Well, Creative audio products are decent but expensively priced. That said, there is a sales going on at its Marina Square showroom. You should pop by and have a look if you want to get some decent priced audio products.

Just don't get those that requires software updates from Creative. You won't know when they will cease upgrading or worse still whether Creative will still be around.

the real assets of creative are not in things that can sell like land or property or buildings bought ages ago and kept off the books The real asset of creative is in the business generating that income, whatever land and buildings have been sold and leased back long long time ago.

Reserves still have but slowly dwindling away so a large part of the get rich quick punters/corporate raiders will really not be interested to buy in for so little rewards also because many people don't understand technology beyond having various gadgets in their pocket or handbag What do people think about when they hear something call stemcell system on chip GPU technology? To many people they are clueless but it's worth 50million to the right people like Intel Corp who wants to license it but how to know who are the right people and what they may be interested in?

so just about the only people who may be interested in acquiring creative will be the insiders or rivals in the same industry who will really understand in depth what is the value of creative business and the hundreds of technology patents that they own.

i can still remember the first creative PCI sound card i bought as a student for $1000 SGD for my x386 computer to play midi tunes hahaha...

I still remember when I was a kid, I was so in love with their Sound Blaster

If he is a good CEO , he should just sell the biz or liquidate the company and return the proceeds back to SHs, rather then melting it day by day. 3 years ago he was so confident about the Jaguar 3 , wanted to sell to schools in China. He claimed Creative spent about 1 B just to do the R and D on this project, but..........

I remember Creative's "flagship" store opposite Parkway Parade when they were the first to introduce a multimedia PC with remote control, radio and CD and VCD playback. But it was really ugly that only techie would think it's cool

And the first Chinese PC that I know called Cubic 99

IMHO their their sound card peaked with AWE32. Thereafter they became the audio standard and was basically feeding off the IP

Their next big thing was MP3 player but the delivery sucks and iPod took their cheese. It is actually already a miracle that Creative survived 20 years with their cheese not taken away until audio codec finally got integrated into the south bridge

Theirs is already a rare story in the cut throat IT industry

For a while, they were lucky (or had the foresight) to have invested in Sigmatel (IC Design) who's one of the major supplier of the AC97 codec. This chip was used in all their SB cards and motherboards before it got integrated. Subsequently, as PC sound quality became better and better, the demand for their SB cards starts to decline and they had no choice but to focus on the higher end niche ie. Higher Quality Sound.. Their investment in Sigmatel was also slowly sold off, allowing them to continue showing Net Profits (from Extraordinary Gains) for a while...IIRC

yup they had so much cashflow from their captive IP that they essentially became a VC. There was a time when valuing Creative was like valuing VC Sigmatel was one huge success, IIRC not because of AC97 but the iPod, amongst 9 failed ones which included a hovercraft investment IIRC.
