This pasir ris market is PRIVATELY owned when the sale was carried out. So MND had no rights to interfere.
After the sale was concluded, the public raised an outcry and hence the plan changed.
To me, the root cause is no more public run markets or hawker stalls. Left to market forces, u will see prices shoot up through industrial property sales...

Sheng Siong share price continue to advance to $0.61, almost double from its IPO price of $0.33
This is the only IPO which i regreted not to participate. I had done the homework and quite positive on it, but hold due to "fear" factor. A good lesson and I hope i will not repeat the same mistake again.

Retail is a very tough business. With other companies like NTUC, cold storage, shop & save, etc, it is unlikely that shengshiong has much of an edge over the rest. It is also unlikely to grow earnings to match the optimism in the current share price.
Many penny stocks are also quite overvalued nowadays

Go check out their new store in Geylang. I think it is perfect fit
This is a super cash generative business that had so much cash that they Geh Kiang invest in equities which was stripped out during IPO. IMHO if they can stand shoulder to shoulder with a Quasi govt entity like NTUC, they have certain competitive advantage

Sheng Siong not in direct competition with NTUC and Dairy Farm, but compete indirectly by taking niche segment of the retail market IMO.

I think they compete in price with NTUC minus/ adjusted by the environment certainly not with cold storage
And they also do bulk. Price and bulk suits Geylang
But I'm no expert: I consult my wife and mother

my mum says whether ntuc, cold storage, shengshiong, shop&save look all the same to her.. haha what's most important is the things they sell must be cheap and some items will always be cheaper in one compared to the other. There is no confirmed winner, must shop around to check it out

Their competitive advantage is their sale psf. Looking at the way Sheng Siong packs their supermarket, they can effectively pack a typical competitors' supermarket into half the required floor area.
By doing that, they can setup a supermarket in almost any place. Two or three shop houses together will suffice to setup a supermarket.
But, I am not sure how they can pass the fire inspection with that kind of density.

Base on my observation, SS stores don't look different from NTUC in term of space. I do not think it has an edge in term of space utilization versus NTUC.
