i see..that makes sense..does it mean the prc drivers over at sbs side are overpaid?

my guess is the company has to pay something like a $500 levy to the govt for every prc driver

low pay lousy living conditions who the hell wants ? See even FT also complaining and you thought maybe they being from a third world or developing country they would find the cramped conditions to be like living in heaven apparently not, if you treat people well who will not want to work? which singaporean will not want to do? But at least Singaporean will not resort to blackmail by staging a protest.

Salary and cramped living conditions - SMRT's bus drivers from mainland China who didn't turn up for work on Monday told The Straits Times that these are their main grouses.

Early on Monday, 102 of them - and not about 200 as earlier reported - didn't turn up for work.

Some drivers living in a dormitory in Serangoon joined others at a Woodlands dormitory to express their unhappiness.

An SMRT spokesman said Monday night that talks between management and the drivers started in the morning and ended at about 6 pm, and they "will be returning to work tomorrow".

Workers said SMRT told them that the salary issue will be decided in a week.

SMRT said some services were affected because of the no-show, and apologised to the public for the inconvenience caused.

I recalled one conclusion made by a social researcher

Between 2 options with similar job scope
Option 1: Earning $8, but it is $1 less than other colleagues.
Option 2: Earning $7, but all other colleagues earn the same.

Most people are happy with option 2, but unhappy with option 1, despite option 1 earn $1 extra

i think once a company's disputes/grievances about working conditions/pay are spilled into public's knowledge it's matter of interpretation of the action (industrail or illegal strike) chosen by the "Authority". You should know who has the upper-hand, no doubt about it.
i think if the action is carried out by all Sink-aporeans, all of them would have been landed in "Changi's FOC Hotel" or somewhere F B & L without doubt.
Then, why do you think we have the "Speakers Corner"? Even then i think you need to apply for a police permit before you are allow to speak at the "Speakers Corner".

This will set a case for future inducstrial actions for foreigners especially from strong countries. Definitely does not apply to Sporeans.

This is not the first time PRCs are having such dispute and acting in concert, look at previous cases they gathered outside MOM office. Our authority really know how to react .
