When you look back in history. What a blessing and lesson-learnt it had been for Asia! Better live within your means, and make preparation for sacrifice for rainy days ahead.
I m not sure about our property though. In time to come, the crisis will spread into a big global mess that will continue to depress wages and increase the population ability to afford basic needs.
The wealth gap will widen and so will political upheaval spread the misery of the ruling and business elite status quo.
We are all watching this like its surreal and all the time cutting back on risk!

Hmm.
Today is the last trading day for 1H2012.
Let's take STI 1H2012 top as 3,000 (round and even)
If STI close above 2850 today, it's a case of loud thunder; rain drops small.
No bear market - STI 2,400.
Not even a correction - STI 2,700 (Ok, almost but the turnaround was super quick!)
Kicking the can down the road still works wonder!?

Alamak! Always like that one! Buy/Sell too early one! Blame who? Never mind lah! You made money or not? Make! O. K. lah! Warning! Excuse me only Sinkaporeans are allowed to read this. O. K.? Non-Sinkaporean reading this may feel offenced by pure Singlish usage here.

The 1st post for this thread was made on 2-Sep-11.
At that point in time,
1. End-Aug '11 : STI = 2885.26 ; -9.55% for '11
2. End-Sep '11 : STI = 2675.16 ; -16.14% for '11
3. End-Dec '11 : STI = 2846.35 ; -17.04% for '11
No correction? If we referenced End-Dec '10 STI = 3190.04, I think many must have suffered losses...
Along came Q112,
End-Mar '12 : STI = 3010.46 ; +13.76%
Wow! What a start... All is forgotten.. Lost $$? Nope! What's that?
Yes, it does seem ironic that today's STI close will be very close to the same level as when the thread was started... Still, I doubt that Euro crisis is already over. I'm sitting tight on the roller coaster, enjoying this upward ride (mid-yr window dressing?) and am mentally and financially ready for any downside ride.. as always.. if it continues to go up, why not, we'll get to enjoy the beautiful scenery..
PS. Time to change the header?

Today may be a case of window-dressing. It's frustrating, admittedly.

PULSE: Euro soars on European Union bank-supervisor plan
06/29/2012
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- The euro rocketed higher early Friday after European Union officials said they are aiming to establish a single financial supervisor for the currency bloc. The euro jumped almost 2 U.S. cents to $1.2605 from $1.2429 in late North American trade Thursday.
See lah, everyone keep saying they got problems and now they decided to create The United States of Europe.
After that, they can start to print money.
So, have you put the downpayment for your 2nd, 3rd, 4th ... properties? Be quick!

It's O. K. lah. This means i still can sell slowly and take some more profit lah. Who knows when Thunder & Lighting come. When they come, sorry ho! you have to spend, spend, spend, no more sell, sell, sell. That's how i survive until now, value investing , fundamental or my "Rojak" investing, all must work for me. Patience is the game, man.
Shalom & Amen.

KopiKat,
Exactly!!! It's great that someone else has a sense of humour too!
I used 1H2012 as my index 100 (and poke)
You shared different time scales as index 100
Imagine if someone takes March 2009 as index 100? STI is still in a bull market what!
I think the other thread on investing returns is getting a bit surreal. And a bit too technical.
Our investment returns has little to do with the STI index (unless you bought the ETF), or knowing the "average" returns of others.
It's what stocks we have picked and at what price we have paid for them.
Even if STI were to go to 2,900, "investors" who are holding on to cyclicals like NOL, Hyflux, Olam, etc; are still sucking their thumbs in their fetal position (unless they bought in 2009).
One more choo choo train up and I'll find a cave to hibernate
