I’m just making comparison with the statistics and highlight the economic benefits that actually save/ improved human lives worldwide.

An estimated over 6 million children under the age of 15, died yearly due to poverty/ preventable diseases.

No doubts, Covid causes many casualties and PANICS as it was UNKNOWNS. From news & statistics, it is very contagious like flu, but good thing, scientists seem to have much better understanding of the virus now. Not forgetting there are many other diseases/ causes that have far more deaths every year, eg. Heart disease, stroke, other kind of respiratory diseases, cancers, diabetes… and so on

Importantly - health care system come down to more manageable/ not overloaded level.

Perhaps this short clip can show it more clearly: https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/1712761/

Note that this is with preventive measures, such as social distancing, and shelter-in-home orders. Imagine the mortality rate and case fatality rate without these policies in place.

Also, it is estimated that Covid-19 is 2-3x more contagious than the flu (https://www.businessinsider.sg/coronavir...?r=US&IR=T), and at least 10x more lethal (https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail...-influenza). Even when healthcare system is not overwhelmed. To complicate matters, we do not have vaccines (we do have flu shot) nor any approved antiviral (we do have oseltamivir for flu).

Good points. This chart compared top diseases/ death in the US.

Other diseases in the chart had been around for ages, with lots of research/ medicine/ development/ information/ preventive measures etc

While - Covid is the new friend, with lesser understanding/ research/ medicines etc as compared to other diseases. And it’s at near peak of infected/ casualty cases in the US

So while markets are not moving on real-time economic fundamentals, they are moving on reasonable judgements of fundamentals going forward and distinguishing between industries that look to be hardest hits from those that might even benefit from the dramatic economic dislocations that COVID-19 responses are creating. If everything were going up indiscriminately, that would indicate markets were fully detached. There are not.

Agreed fully . Market is smart .

What you need to know about the COVID-19 vaccine

Governments need to quickly find a mechanism for making the funding for this available. Our foundation is currently working with CEPI, the WHO, and governments to figure out the financing. Part of those discussions center on who will get the vaccine when. The reality is that not everyone will be able to get the vaccine at the same time. It’ll take months—or even years—to create 7 billion doses (or possibly 14 billion, if it’s a multi-dose vaccine), and we should start distributing them as soon as the first batch is ready to go.

A few years back, I have resigned myself to always stay at least 80% invested in the market at all times, in companies with strong balance sheet, or out-sized probability of huge returns in the future (with proper sizing). Many times I look back, perhaps I should have sold at the highs (local maximum) and then I could buy back at the lows (local minimum). But then, if I'm being honest with myself, there would also be times where I would have been shaken out of strong companies forever.

I guess Warren Buffett's was right all along (invest as though you are a business owner, not a stock trader).
“If you buy a business just because it’s undervalued, then you have to worry about selling it when it reaches its intrinsic value. That’s hard. But if you can buy a few great companies, then you can sit on your ass. That’s a good thing.” - Charlie Munger

Recession to be over by end of 2020 ?

In the global financial crisis [in 2008-09], we never could tell when it was going to end,” he said in a telephone interview. This time, he said, “the cause is clear — it's a biological event, and the solution is also clear: another biological event.”

He doesn’t anticipate the V-shaped recovery that Wall Street touted a few weeks ago. “I think it's more what I call the ‘skinny U,’ because I do believe that we will have a vaccine by the first quarter [of 2021],” he said.

Article say they have been researching into it for the past 4 years. At that rate, I believe another cure would be found and those researchers are still researching into it. I wont count on them.
