NOL was a forced move, I feel.

Is Malacca port development still in progress?

Is HST FROM Singapore to KL still intact?

Maybe another 10 to 30  years time.

Who can tell?

Truism of Investments.
A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.

So Tuas Mega port in 2021 can rival Malacca port by the Chinese or not if Malaysia really agrees to the Chinese terms?

Unless another Najib appears, I think it is almost impossible in another 10 to 30 years.

SPH Posts Net Profit of $213.2 Million for FY2019, Driven by Higher Income from Property
* Proposed Final Dividend of 6.5 cents per share (Normal Dividend of 5.5 cents per share + Special Dividend of 1 cent per share).
* Total Dividend is 12 cents per share including Interim Dividend of 5.5 cents.

Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) today reported its results for the year ended 31 August 2019 (FY19). Net profit of $213.2 million was 23.4% or $65.2 million lower compared with a year ago, largely due to the absence of the one-off gain from the divestment of the Treasury & Investment portfolio.

Overall, operating revenue remained stable, easing by 2.4% or $23.3 million to $959.3 million with the improved Property revenue mitigating Media’s decline.

Despite the increased scale of operations during the year from property acquisitions in UK and Australia and the expansion of capabilities in the Media and Property segments, costs were well-controlled. As a result, operating profit was 12.2% or $26 million lower at $186.9 million.

SPH today closed at 2.13 (-0.030), down 1.39%.

From the results presentation deck pg18, "Woodleigh Residences still selling; 20% sold as at 31 Aug, maintains average price around S$1,900 psf"
I think with more planned condo launches in the pipeline and growing economic uncertainity, it may get harder for SPH to sell its remaining condos.

Singapore Press Holdings Limited (“SPH”) today announced that it has entered through a wholly-owned subsidiary, into an agreement with affiliates of Columbia Pacific Advisors, LLC to acquire a portfolio of aged care assets in Canada for Can$232.9 million (S$244.5 million1). The deal is subject to satisfactory due diligence.

Occupancy rates in excess of 90% have been consistently achieved over the past three years. The assets are currently being managed by Hawthorn Senior Living.

Whenever i go take a look at SPH's financial statements, i just find it difficult to say something positive.

https://links.sgx.com/1.0.0/corporate-an...2Q2020.pdf

Compared to one year ago, it has added more debt more perpetual securities to fund its investment properties yet its profit before tax before fair value gains have stayed more or less stagnant. Maybe there's an intention to create a new reit for these investment properties but i dont think it is quite possible in this investment climate.

Just looks like a terrible investment even at today's price of 1.57. Poor earnings. High leverage

Valuation of investment properties is subject to significant estimation uncertainty. The
outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (“COVID-19”) has negatively affected the retail and
student accommodation sector in countries where the Group’s investment properties are
located. Given that the potential impact of COVID-19 is constantly evolving, significant
market uncertainty exists. Therefore, the carrying amount of the investment properties
assessed by the Group was current as at 29 February 2020 only. This carrying amount
assessed may change significantly after the balance sheet date.

If the carrying amount drops, the high leverage will make the balance sheet look less healthy. Will shareholders end up following SIA's footsteps of rights? Perhaps, management will suggest that the rights are meant for them to buy more investment properties. Rarely will they tell you that the balance sheet is not healthy. Healthy or unhealthy is always subjective. Prospective investors should take this into consideration
