Good to see a greater variety of businesses listed on sgx.

I thought pricing it at 26 times earnings is already excessive. And yet people are paying up to 50 times? Good times...

Since it is a placement only shares, I believe shatrs are all in friendly hands. I prefer to just watch from afar

I saw some figures while reading TheEdge article on this company.

Quoted from TheEdge article on UnUsUaL:
"For the 9 months to Dec last year, revenue fell 28% to $16million. Earnings, however, grew 38% to $3.8million.......... It also recorded a $1.6million gain, mainly from equipment sales."

I haven't looked at UnUsUaL in detail, but just based on this article, this means that prior year earnings was $2.75mil (since it rose 38%)

Without the $1.6mil gain from equipment sales though, current year earnings would be (3.8mil - 1.6mil) = $2.2mil.

In other words, real earnings, taking out the 1 off earnings from "equipment sales" would actually have DROPPED from $2.75mil to $2.2mil.

Isn't it a bit of a coincidence that an extraordinary gain from equipment sales, changed the earnings picture from a drop, to a 38% rise, JUST BEFORE IPO?
I wonder how many folks who have contributed to the massive rise today really looked at these figures.

Mind bogging indeed. PE of 50 times. Even higher than bank and medical stocks. Only Jason Holding was comparable and where is Jason Holding now?

This is actually not UnUsUal at all (haha). Most companies do this prior to their IPO.

IPOs almost always shows a very nice growth of revenues, profits, and margins over a three year period. Either the numbers are massaged, or the growth is real. If the growth is real, then you may be buying at/near the peak of its growth. Understanding the market size and prospects of the industry will help us decide whether there can be continued growth.

Is there a big potential for growth in the industry which UnUsUal is operating in?

'The Company is looking at a certain corporate exercise, however it has not been finalised. If
or when it is finalised, the Company will make the necessary announcement. Other than this,
the Company is not aware of any undisclosed announcement that may explain the
movement of the share price.'

Seems like there is a news leak. Shouldn't they be more specific about what 'corporate exercise' they are looking at, now that it is leaked?

It seems like the corporate exercise is a 3 for 5 "bonus" issue, announced yesterday.

http://infopub.sgx.com/FileOpen/UnUsUaL%...eID=476463

As usual, the unusual thing about this would be the "3 for 5" number that ignores fractional entitlements.

Assume a hypothetical company that has 1 major shareholder A and 3 OPMIs - B/C/D (each with same shares) and they do similarly announce a 3-for-5 bonus issue:

Original share count (%)               Bonus entitlement (share count)               Share count after bonus issue (%)
A 208 (79.39%)                          124                                                         208+124 = 332 (79.81%)
B 18 (6.87%)                               10                                                           18+10 = 28 (6.73%)
C 18 (6.87%)                               10                                                           18+10 = 28 (6.73%)
D 18 (6.87%)                               10                                                           18+10 = 28 (6.73%)
Total 262 (100%)                         10                                                            18+10 = 28 (6.73%)

After the bonus issue of 3-for-5, major shareholder A miraculously own 0.42% more of the company now, with no extra money required. Is that UnUsual?
