An interesting article on The Star Online in Malaysia. The most interesting one is Malaysia proficiency is above Singapore, in a survey done by a Singapore-base institution.

The survey result can be viewed by the link below

A Thai paratrooper tragically plummeted to his death after his parachute got caught on the plane he jumped out of.

The video, which went viral recently, shows the sequence of events which unfolded before the fatal fall.

The paratroopers jump of the plane in sequence as part of a training exercise.

One of them gets his parachute caught on the plane, leaving him hanging in midair as the plane continues soaring through the air.

After a few minutes, his chute rips free of the plane. However, the parachute is damaged at this point, and the paratrooper plummets to his apparent death as the camera continues rolling.

Ang Mo Kio Town Council website hacked
Posted by: AlphaQuant - 28-10-2013, 06:43 PM - Forum: Others - No Replies

Bloke is going to be in deep trouble if he/she is caught!

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ang-mo-kio-town...24881.html

***************************

Ang Mo Kio Town Council's website, www.amktc.org.sg, was compromised on Monday, once again by the hacker known as "The Messiah".

After the hacker's outings on Sun Ho's as well as the People's Action Party (PAP) Community Foundation websites, "The Messiah" left a message in a two-panel carousel on the town council's home page targeting both it and one of its members of parliament (MPs) Ang Hin Kee.

The first panel read, "I have been to various sites and seen how they take the initiative to secure their systems. You have a brain and you have money. You had a choice. Don't blame external factors (Anonymous) for this hack. - The Messiah Wink".

It linked to an article on sociopolitical site TR Emeritus reporting Ang's comments on the Woodlands bus interchange incident where a man was recorded on video spitting and verbally attacking other commuters over cutting a queue.

Clicking to the second panel revealed a second message, purportedly of Ang "tender(ing) (his) resignation as your minister of parliament'".

"I am incapable and have failed you," wrote the hacker, who added another link to a YouTube video about the Anonymous group of "hacktivists".

By about 5pm, administrators had locked the Town Council's website, requiring authentication to access it.

Teacher alleges lawyer owes her more than $1m

The New Paper

Lawyer Ong Teck Ghee is facing a new lawsuit and a Law Society disciplinary tribunal following a business deal with another party.

In a claim filed in the High Court on Jan 16, a teacher, who is also a part-time tutor, alleged that Mr Ong owes her more than $1 million. According to documents filed by Ms Zhao Qian, a Singapore permanent resident from China, they entered into two loan agreements on Dec 19, 2011 and Jan 2 last year.

She gave him $150,000 as part of the first agreement, which had an agreed interest or return of $54,000. Then she passed him $500,000 in January last year as part of a second agreement, with an agreed interest of $500,000, she claimed. The sums were for investments in a government-related health project that Mr Ong said he was involved in, Ms Zhao claimed.

Mr Ong returned $51,500 from the first agreement in January and February last year, which were her promised returns, and none from the second, she claimed.

She also alleged that 13 cheques that Mr Ong gave her bounced.

In his defence, Mr Ong said the sums were illegal loans and Ms Zhao was an unlicensed moneylender, so both loan documents were unenforceable.

He also counter-claimed damages for trespassing and defamation, as she had visited his office multiple times with declarations that he was a cheat, he said.

Ms Zhao, who is represented by lawyer Choo Zheng Xi, said they had met in November 2011 at her friend's Prinsep Street shop. As they conversed, he found out she was interested in starting a kindergarten.

He said he had contacts in the industry and floated the idea of a joint venture, she claimed.

Two days later, he called to say his contact in the industry was not ready for a joint venture, but he was in a government-related health project.

He mentioned that he was in touch with some political leaders, but she said she was not interested.

Ms Zhao claimed that Mr Ong called her almost daily to persuade her to join the venture, suggesting that she invest $500,000 as soon as possible, assuring her that she would make a 100 per cent profit in less than a year.

When she expressed scepticism, he invited her to Warren Golf and Country Club on Dec 17, 2011, to join him for lunch after a golf session with people he claimed were important.

She left thinking he had a good standing in society.

Though she could not raise the $500,000 he asked for at that time, she lent him $150,000 which she drew from her and her sister's savings, and proceeds from selling her flat in April 2011.

DOUBTS

Until March last year, Ms Zhao claimed he tried to get her to invest $1 million to cover the costs for what he called a government-related security tender after he won a government project to collaborate with the Commissioner of Police on a technology called IrisGuard.

But by then, she had doubts about his ability to pay her back and turned him down.

He cancelled meetings that were meant for him to pass her money. Then, postdated cheques he had previously given her started bouncing, she claimed.

On April 18 last year, she made a police report over his failure to give back her money.

She also made a complaint of alleged misconduct with the Law Society. Mr Ong now faces a disciplinary tribunal. Ms Zhao's case will be heard on Oct 29.

  Corporate/Business challenge

Media agency Ate Group founded by Aun Koh, son of Professor Tommy Koh is suing three ex-staff for allegedly setting up a rival agency and poaching clients from Ate while under its employment.

Ate’s clients have included Jamie’s Italian Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board, MasterCard, DBS Bank, National Heritage Board, Unilever Food Solutions, Louis Vuitton and The Peninsula Hotels Group.

Ate was founded in 2006 by Aun Koh, son of celebrated Singaporean lawyer and diplomat Professor Tommy Koh, and his wife. Koh no longer has an operational role at Ate, but remains a partner in the business.

In a long post on his Facebook page, Koh wrote:

Aun Koh

I have been completely disgusted by the unprofessional and possibly criminal actions by three former employees (coincidentally, all foreigners).

From what I have been told, these three, over a period of time and while actually under our employment, allegedly worked to divert business away from us and to their new agency.

Allegedly, they lied to my business partners, misrepresented our agency, and even lied to clients.

Allegedly, they were, while still drawing salaries from us, selling their own services and poaching Ate’s clients.

Now, I have no problem with competition. And as I said, I’m happy to see my ex-colleagues succeed. But there are certain moral codes that people and professionals should adhere to.

These three, in my personal opinion, have demonstrated a complete lack of integrity and professionalism. To me, they have lost any kind of credibility not only as professionals but human beings.

I am actually shocked that some of our clients signed up with their new firm and am simply hoping they were misled, as opposed to actually supporting this behaviour.

It actually saddens me that in order to seek justice my partners are pursuing both legal and criminal action against these people. I don’t understand why three supposedly intelligent people couldn’t wait until they no longer worked for us to pursue new business.

Why do something so obviously wrong? Why not part ways on good terms and compete then? There’s surely enough business out there for many, many communications companies?

What also saddens me about this incident is that I was always a huge supported of foreign (white collar) labor here in Singapore. While I know these people are surely not indicative of a huge population of expatriates, it does make me rethink whether or not these new arrivals are really grateful for the opportunities they are being given here or are they all just so self-centered that they don’t care about things like professionalism, integrity or even right and wrong.

I won’t be naming these people here. I’m not that stupid or petty. But friends from various sectors can guess who they are. And I hope these friends won’t give these people or their business the time of day.
