GoPro has been beaten down due to overreaction to Ambarella’s earning call or some announcement and now near on its 52-week low. Is this an opportunity?

I don't like the valuations and the fact that they are going into the drone market. Many many competitors...

However Woodman is a winner if you're betting on him.

Just my humble opinion..

If you say GoPro's market position can be eroded easily by entrant of new competitors, then why didn't they already do it? I will beg to differ. GoPro is able to inspire a loyal "cult" type of followers, which is much similar to Apple in its beginning days.

When I hear Sony, Panasonic, Fujifilm... the first two words are "boring, outdated". While for GoPro, "innovative, modern". I will be more worried when key management (CEO, etc) starts selling and not independent directors. Independent directors come and go. Those two independent directors could be selling their stakes to recycle their capital. Remember UMS? It was fine despite insider selling.

GoPro Shares Tumble After Revealing Job Cuts, Revenue Miss

GoPro Inc.’s dramatic shift in fortunes is starting to look just like the action-packed video clips popularized by the company’s cameras.

Shares in GoPro, which tumbled 72 percent last year, took another hit and declined by as much as 30 percent after the company released preliminary 2015 sales results that fell short of analysts’ projections. The action-camera maker also said in a statement on Wednesday that it’s cutting 7 percent of its workforce.

GoPro, which faces mounting concern that it’s a single-product company, said retail sales in the fourth quarter -- a critical holiday shopping period -- were slower than expected. A key concern is that people will start to rely more on their smartphones to record and share their outdoor and sporting exploits, rather than spending $200 to $400 for GoPro’s Hero cameras. Once the darling of investors when its shares were first sold to the public in June 2014, GoPro is now seeking to generate revenue from videos created by extreme-sports enthusiasts.

“This is absolutely indicative of the one-trick pony story,” said Andrew Uerkwitz, an analyst at Oppenheimer & Co. “The software hasn’t been updated. Over the last 18 months they only launched two cameras and both performed poorly.”

The latest report of GoPro has disappointed many, including me. There is a problem of new devices release. Does the company still have a chance of survival?

Hi Melissa

Saw that your posts are all asking for recommendations.

Actually this forum is unique cause we mostly discuss stocks rather than recommend stocks per se, unlike other dime a piece forums. Maybe you can share more in depth why it disappointed you and what was your expectations.

My 2cts is to ask yourself if GoPro is positioning to sell their hardware or software?

The technology behind GoPro is not complex. But they managed to fit the technology to the need, much like what Apple did. Tech companies after all these decades still trying to fit needs into technology.

Apple is primarily a software company which is an open techie secret. That's the MOS / moat.

This year GPRO looks so weak. Earlier I thought it made sense to invest in it. But now I strongly doubt it.
